Slugs and Snails as Food?

yasin1 Jun 13, 2010 12:05 PM

I live by a forest in Switzerland and due to frequent rain the forest is teeming slugs and snails. Do you think these are a good feeding option for Blue Tail Monitors? I am sure they are chemical free but what about parasites?

Thanks,
Yasin

I know of people who use snails. I have tried them a few times before. I froze mine and fed them thawed. Try earthworms too, doubt you will have to freeze them.

I use wild slugs and snails for my tegu and he loves them. They are a very good food source if available. Dumerils monitors relish them.

All my reptiles are strictly carnivores I don't bother with omnivores or herbivores... so the list I feed from is easy... in no particular order rodents, crickets, night crawlers(worms), roaches of any kind I can buy or breed. Nothing else added no turkey, exotic snails or "mollusks" (whatever that means).

I just put in 20 or so live/clean/small snails in and 15 of them are gone already. I think they like them . Other than these they eat adult mice.
