Redflame/Sandfire Red (greenie) X RedGolds. Mom is the Redflame/Sandfire Red, her name is Sydney. I bought her from Vicki and Rob Dachiu a couple years ago. Dad is a RedGold, his name is Rascal.

This is Sydney (Mom)

This is Dad (Rascal)

This is them about to mate. They only mated once, that all it took

The babies didnt hatch with obvious high color. After they were in their cages for a day or two is when I started seeing the colors. The oldest ones are 4 days and there is a big difference already. I cant wait to see what colors they turn. I usually sell them as a group before they shed, but I am not sure if the same person is taking them this year. We will see. I will try and get some pictures maybe tomorrow of their colors.

Thanks, Lindsay

I have babies that are about five days old and they are doing great eating Jackie Vandiver's recipe for hatchlings but they show no interest in crickets. Are yours eating crickets yet, is there any trick to getting them started?

I have my first clutch and there are six hatchlings, all strong and healthy. I really want to keep them that way, any advise?

For the first day I dust one cricket at a time and drop them in the cages one at a time. I find that dusting them slows the crickets down a little, making them easier to catch and one at a time is less stressful on newly hatched babies. If you dump a bunch in, they seem to act scared of the crickets.

Like I said, for the first day I throw in one cricket at a time (keep putting them in as they eat them). If after 10-15 minutes they dont eat it, I remove it and try again later. If they eat it, I put another in and keep going till their done. Its very time consuming, but worth it.

Day 2-7 (or so) I offer 3-6 crickets at a time. The first 3-6 go quickly, I put more in, but it takes them longer to eat those. Each cage is only averaging about 10-20 crickets a day right now (4 babies in each cage). But they are still young. They are 1/4 inch crickets, not the tiny cricks. I have never had a problem using 1/4 inch crickets.

Usually after a week I begin to offer 6-12 at a time (again as they eat them, I throw more in). At this age and up, they go through many more a day.

I try and feed them 3-4 times a day. If by evening there is a few that havent ate I hand feed them a tiny bit of zupreem baby bird formula and water. Try and limit the frequency and amount of hand feeding! Last year I hand fed all the babies for the first 3 days (while offering crickets) and the babies were slower to get started on crickets and ate less of them. I think they get used to the formula feeding!

I also allow them to eat as many crickets as they will until they lose interest. I just keep throwing them in as I stated above. I wait about 10-15 minutes at the end. If no baby has went after a cricket in that time I remove the remaining ones.

Everyone has a different method that works for them. This works for me and hopefully it will work for you Take care and goodluck.... Lindsay

Those are some cute little beardies, but I just wanted to let you know that that strip thermometer is basically useless. I used to have some of those in my tanks and after I got an infared temp gun, I found that they are HORRIBLY inaccurate. For example, they would say the temp was 85 on the hot side, when in fact it was really 115!!! No joke. Toss those out and get a good digital therm.!

I have 4 digital thermometers from radio shack. One I use for the incubator, others for some of the adult cages. I have tested the aquariums with the digital and it was only off a couple degrees! Maybe you had a faulty one?

What kind of temp gun do you have? Where did you get it? Does it only measure a surface or can it measure the air temp too? I was thinking of getting one for all my cages and feeder bins.

Thanks for the concern but I had already checked into it I learned from the crappy thermometer that came with the hovabator incubator not to trust cheap thermometers! I just use them as a guide. But I did test them out. I cant believe how off you found yours to be! WOW! LindsayMarie
