New litter, my personal biggest yet!

Miloradovich Jun 15, 2010 12:51 PM

Found these guys yesterday morning before work and couldn't have been more excited. I had her marked for the 17th so a few days earlier than expected but all look full term and healthy.
Final count was a whopping 27 baby rainbows! I think my personal best has been 15 up until now. I guess giving the big girls a year off is good for them lol.
Here are a few pics. I didn't get a chance to get them up yesterday. Let me know what you think!

And since I'm here, and I know everyone appricaites off topic news, here are a few pics of a litter that arrived Saturday morning. Unfortunately they were accompanied by 25 slugs but I am very happy to get the ten babies that I did. This is a pairing that I have been hoping for the last couple of seasons. These guys are all 68.75% argentine blood, hypos and normals 100% het for albino. I am really hoping to put some red into a sunglow project!
There are some great salmontines in the litter and I am impressed with the normals as well, they are almost as dark as pure argentines. It'll be neat to see how they all mature.

And a pic of the parents

I'll be posting pics of the salmontine litter over on the boa forum as well so sorry for the duplicates for those of you who check both.
Thanks for checking out my new litters and good luck to everyone else expecting!

Congrats on a huge litter!! They all look great. Looking forward to seeing some pics after they shed.

I am hoping for some big litters as well, but I'll be happy if I get anything. So far only two of my females I am 99.9% sure are gravid, and both of them were bred by my Hypo male. I have 2 or 3 females that might be gravid, but hard to tell... the rest I am pretty sure are not.

Thanks Aubrey and good luck with yours. When are they due? I know the anticipation and waiting are always rough for me but being unsure about some is the absolute worst. It can drive you nuts with the maybe/maybe not and all the second guessing.
Good luck!

Really not sure when they are due. They have shed a few times, and I don't know when the last mating was. I had babies from September thru November last year so I am thinking probably close to then.

Sounds like you've still got a few months of pacing ahead of you. Good luck!
I have had BRB litters in April, May, June, July and August but I definately have the advantage of cooling them earlier here in Colorado.

Thanks Jeff,
when you'd guessed 22 babies for this female I thought to myself, it would be nice but I really didn't expect to even get into the 20's. Next time I won't second guess you!

Miloradovich Jun 16, 2010 09:56 AM

Thanks Ike!
I am still blown away at the quantity of them myself. I know others have had even larger litters but this has almost doubled my largest litter of BRB's this far.
There does appear to be some lookers in there. I can't wait for them all to shed. This was the first time I have used this male so I am pleased with the outcome to say the least.

20 + barrier. 27 is a great litter and the babies look just fine! Now you need to keep working on those big mommas and break the 30 + barrier

Sorry I missed the fun but was offline all week.

Thanks Dave!
I was and am pretty excited to get so many of the little ones. So many more than I had expected. Mom and babies are all doing good. Still one more BRB litter to go but I can't imagine it'll be this high of a count, this one's not looking quite so large and stretched out as the recent new mom.
Hope you had a good week off.
