I held back a female from the 2005 clutch laid by the gravid female I collected north of Dryden. I grow females slow and choose to breed them in the fifth or sixth year. Last year, I didn’t really think this holdback female was big enough to breed, so I put her in with one of my Dryden males (the black Dryden) while her cagemate (her mom) laid her eggs. Well, apparently she was big enough to breed, becoming gravid and laying only one egg that went to term but unfortunately didn’t hatch. Anyway, I didn’t put her in with a male this year, but she become gravid AGAIN, surprising me with nine small eggs over the weekend - about five looked good. I was in the Hualapai Mountains noosing lizards while she was laying her eggs. I didn’t have a lay box with her so they dried out a little. I’m hoping to restore them so at least part of the clutch hatches out.
