I've seen alot of sunken fat pad pics with skinny tail bases lately and newbies don't seem to know what/where they are, so here is a pic of Cecil saying his prayers before bed... w/arrows pointing to fat pads.

My vet told me about two more along with the two that Christy showed in her pic. One is under the front arms, but right in back of the under arm. The second was right under the pointiest beard points on either sides. What most people call the jowls that place too gets really thick and plump to the touch in nice healthy dragons. If you look at Anna's face shot by hitting mystical dragons below you can see what I mean. Gives them that classic double chin look
Such a fat Anna Nicole

Do you find that male BDs' fat pads are more pronounced than the females?
What is considered as being too fat for a BD?
Has anyone recorded a weight to length ratio? This may give an indication of what should be considered as being "too fat".
Q: Do you find that male BDs' fat pads are more pronounced than the females?
A: Yes in certain area. Males seem to collect fat easier in their head pads, and tail bases them females do, but females seem to collect larger fat in the jowls/chin area and under the arms, and of course the tummy
looking more rounded in the body than males.
Q: What is considered as being too fat for a BD?
A: To Fat I would say is when they would rather lay around, and eat more then the average dragons do. If your dragon is long as well as heavy, but carries that weight well, and is no less active then usual, and is checked out by a vet without a problem he/she is most likely fine
Q: Has anyone recorded a weight to length ratio? This may give an indication of what should be considered, as being "too fat".
A: I don't know of one, but I would find it interesting to read. I personally feel if the dragon is long enough to where the weight fits the body, and does not hinder the dragons activities such as climbing and running he/she is most likely the right weight too length, and is healthy. I have some heavy dragons but all are great lengths as well. I have to watch if they stop being as active and adjust the food intake accordingly. Health is the main concern as well as fatty intake. If you know you've tried a diet for one you thought was too heavy, and he still holds that weight after cutting out live feeders, and giving variety salad instead. Most likely his body was meant for it, and will not loose it unless ill, or starved.

LOL she sure does look like a big girl. Must be miserable for them to carry around all that extra weight in the tummy. Is that girl able to go up on the hammocks? I have to e-mail you about them.

Mystical Dragons
She is the only one that doesn't have a hammock, she's in a Vision cage and I haven't gotten around to mounting it alternatively.

**Fat pads seem to appear the same on my M/F's
**I suppose too fat would have to take in the consideration of size.
The dragon in my pic is 460 grams and 20". He's a big boy, but not fat.
**I'm not awre of any published ratios.
