Any chance they reopened the comstock motel? Myself and bel (my fiance') will be headed down for her first herping trip and my fathers day. I will be in a sahara sand Z71 sport bed if anyone wants to say hey...

It's remodeled and open...if you don't mind cigarette smoke, throw business at the folks across the street.

I stayed at the Comstock motel Saturday night and the rooms are nicely remodeled. $65 a night I believe is what I payed. Burgers across the street aren't bad.

$65@NIGHT?????.....YIKES....USED TO BE $65/WEEK!!!!

chrisdrake Jun 15, 2010 09:12 PM

lol Bob! Someone has to pay for the flat screen tvs and new beds in each room. They look brand new on the inside. I never stayed there before but it looks like they were gutted and totally redone. The guy that owns it is pretty cool. Price is high but the location sure is nice

do you have access to duncan's pool????......i remember when that was built!!!!....probably funded by snake sales.....back then baird's rats were considered more valuble than blairi.....for about a day!!!!!....

that was in 1976....baird's were were seen less often than blair's....why?????......cuz the mexicana people only frequented small prescribed areas.....and would speed race from spot to spot....skipping large areas....how old were you in '76????

ALTERNA63 Jun 21, 2010 12:32 AM

I stayed here 3 weeks ago Mike and yes, all the rooms are totally remodeled. In fact, it is the nicest hotel out that direction. everything is super clean, flat screen TV, clean bathrooms and shower,.......TOTALLY REDONE!!! I was extremely impressed. If you are going to hunt Juno, this is the place to be!!! The guy running it is not a fan of snakes though so if he keeps seeing Herpers giving him business, he may change his mind!

That would be a good option to stay for folks hunting a number of those more eastern locals.. We would just want to take great care to leave a good impression.

I have not been on that side of Val Verde in a very long time, is there any gas in or near Comstock?

I have never stayed in Comstock but it seems like it would be a great location to base out of seeing as how it's much more central to good areas than Del Rio. Is there a store in Comstock where you can buy supplies like batteries, drinks and decent food? By decent food I mean like you would find at a real grocery store not just snacks and junk food. What about resaraunts? As another poster asked, what about gas? Can you get reasonably priced gasoline there and what hours are they open?

I apologize if you already answered this but do the rooms have refrigerators?

Perhaps the most important question, do they have the Weather Channel and/or a good internet connection?

Being a smaller town too, we would have a chance to make more of an impact on the local economy as opposed to staying at some chain motel in Del Rio.

bobassetto Jun 18, 2010 06:38 PM

used to spend 2 to 3 weeks there as a jump off spot for my entire time....the room was cheap enough.....back then it was the casa blanca.....and rosies 66 station had cabins....mike gieger aka del kid stayed there....toby's ...cross the streetand emilio's....then the owl's nest.....WOW...and that guy holly....whoa...youse old guys know what i mean....WOW....he makes vader look like one of them meatro-sexuals....all clean and neat...

ALTERNA63 Jun 21, 2010 12:27 AM

The rooms have microwaves and fridges. There is a little cafe across the street, and as I said, there are a couple of staions to get gas. Believe me it has all a snakehunter would need!

maxrr Jun 19, 2010 03:58 PM

There is a 24/7 gas station, if you pay by card...
