How to sex Collareds? Anybody know?

kofseattle Sep 23, 2003 10:27 AM

I noticed some speculation as to the sex of my female Collared in the photo post below. She(?) was sold to me as a female and because of the darker colors I guess I assumed she was. However, a couple of you thought there was a chance she was a male stating she was showing orange bars of a male? Can you be more specific as to how you came to think there was a possibility she is a he? I need to know before she/he matures and issues arise. My intent was to have a male and a female.

This is one of my hatchlings, note the row of(LARGER white scales) just beneath the vent area, see them? That is a male. You can also compare the new ones vent area with Bluey's and see if it appears simular. Some females have the dots to either side of the vent. Some of my females DO NOT, but the males I ahve all have the row of larger scales.
