New to the tree monitor thing, With ???

cobra93 Jun 17, 2010 12:05 AM

The Reptiles mag. had a issue on tree monitors. I don't know which issue it was and can't seem to find it in the archives. The green tree monitor is very cool and so is the blue monitor cool but not the blue tail as much as the all blue. ( In my opion) Is this related to the green or not? Is this a fluke or bad pic of a green? What do they run (cost) in compaired to the green? I KNOW MOST OF YOU ARE THINKING GET A BOOK but I'm just tring to figure if this would be good for me as well as the monitor. How big do they get, are they a pritty hardy animal, are they primerly for advanced herpers, from the vidios on kingsnake they seem to have a mellow dispacition is this true, can you keep the two togeather, how big of a cage is needed, is there enough information out their on them to get help? Thank you to all that answer and give input.

I will try to answer a few of your questions, but you should really do more research, to answer all your questions would take a lot of time and typing, just google tree monitors and tree monitor care, there is some good info out there, then after that come back with more specific questions.

A blue tail monitor and blue tree monitor are two different types of monitor. Blue and Green tree monitors will usually run around $700, sometimes a little lower and a lot of times way higher. Good luck finding a captive breed animal, most on the market are wild caught.

THEY ARE STRICTLY FOR ADVANCED KEEPERS! The care of tree monitors is way harder than most other reptiles and other monitors. They cannot tolerate mistakes in husbandry like a lot of other reptiles. What kind of experience do you have with reptiles and more specifically with monitors?
