32 days after copulation, 7 days after prelay shed, we got eggs on the ground... This is an exciting clutch for me...
Got 12 eggs... 2 of which look sluggish and the rest look good...

She is a young female at 14 months old... She was up to size so I figured she would be good to go... Worked out perfectly...

Here are some photos...

Safely tucked away in a SIM container...

Incubator set at 81.5...

Good job man!! That's quite an accomplishment to get eggs out of a girl that young. The babies should be beautiful out of that pairing.

14 months!? Wow, that's pretty young. How much did she currently weigh when you started breeding her? Beautiful looking girl, I hope all of those eggs hatch out for you.

Thanks guys... Much appreciated...

Jon, I think I just got lucky with a really fast grower... LOL

Kevin, she is indeed the one from Daytona... Nothing from the reds yet... I want to put a few more grams on the female... Maybe a late season pairing or I will just wait till the winter to pair them up...

Rex,
She was about 260 or so grams when I paired her with the male if I remember correctly... Got to about 320 grams while gravid and she is exactly 283 grams after dropping these eggs today... I do not think it could have gone anymore perfect...

From breeding other species of snakes I have learned that age is not very important... In fact, the earlier some species are started, the better they do year after year as long as they are in proper breeding condition... That has been my personal experience...

I agree with weight over age being more of a precedent for breeding consideration. I was just surprised that she was at breeding size at just 14 months. Unfortunately for me, I live in a much colder climate which makes it more difficult for me to keep my hogs as warm as I'd like to (despite my best efforts), so my animals grow at a much slower rate than everyone else's.

And please, call me Troy. I haven't been called Rex since I was in the Army some 15 years ago.

LOL... Sorry Troy... I could not remember your first name while I was posting my reply...

I got lucky with my stock so far... Every hog I own is growing real fast... Dont know if its the feeding and high temps or if its the blood lines...

Rextiles Jun 18, 2010 01:55 PM

It's all good, I've been called worse!

Well, I definitely believe part of it is in the bloodlines as my Anaconda and Superconda are notorious bottomless pit eaters. But then I just have some others that eat very irregularly, primarily my female PPA and my male Axanthic. Those two have been very frustrating to feed and are the smallest hogs I have for their age group.
