Can someone help me identify?

nekhebet Jun 17, 2010 01:04 PM

About a year ago I took in a male King from a friend of mine, she had received him from someone else who told her he's a "florida kingsnake" then also that he's a "brooksi kingsnake"

At Repticon in Tampa last week, I showed a picture of him to a king breeder who says to him, he appears to be a Chain. Now, I personally don't think he looks brooks -- and I don't really feel like he falls under chain either, he has more yellow than the specimens I've seen.

Since I can't figure out how to add a picture specifically, I'll include the link to my iherp for him.

Thank you for any input you have!

Apparently you posted the pictures to a site that is banned here. I have done the courtesy of rehosting them for you.

Your snake appears to be an eastern kingsnake. He could also be a darker blotched kingsnake, but eastern kingsnake is the safest ID. That one is actually pretty nice. Wide bands like that are not common.

Some area of Southern Georgia have wide banned eastern kingsnakes. Some areas of the Florida Panhandle also have wide banned eastern kingsnakes. Most commonly the blotched "goini" kingsnake have the wide bands with speckling throughout the body. Now this one looks like a normal eastern king that just has wide bands. A very nice eastern to have in your collection.

based on the info provided, the snake is probably an integrade regardless of how much it looks like one subspecies or the other. I agree it looks more eastern than anything. However, its another example to be put in the "Mystery" getula file IMO. It would not surprise me if it was het. for one of the designer morph traits on the market today. Nice, robust looking snake though!!!

Thanks for your input, I was contemplating breeding him, but wanted to get a better idea of what he may be before making that decision...

thank you for your time and input, i really appreciate it

Very interesting snake indeed! Definately not a Brooks we can scratch that off the list. But I'm wondering if it might not be from a Nrth Florida local? Anyway without clear data on it's origin it is just a Good lucking Kingsnake with definate Chain influence.
