So this morning when I was checking over my snakes I noticed that they ALL were in the water with just their heads poking out. So I was inspecting there cages and noticed a few different sizes of bugs crawling around (very very tiny ones). They are in a basement so in the summer there is always a few things crawling around. I checked my snakes out and I did find a few bugs crawling on them. The one I noticed the most was my Albino Burmese python. It was easy to see them on him and his color is light and they stand out. What bothered me was that it looked like they have been eating around his eye. His eye was not moist like the others, it looked rather dry around the edges. So I whipped out my JURASSI MITE and cleaned all the cages and sprayed it down and then sprayed all my snakes. All in all there was not many bugs (that i could see) at all. I hope this JURASSI MITE works well because this is the first time I have had a bug problem to speak of. I went though 2 bottles of it because I have 15 snakes and I figured that if I did one I should just do them all.

Anyone else have similar problems as this? or know a better solotuion. The JURASSI MITE is suppose to be non-harmful to the snakes but I hate using any kind of chemicals.

Mites! Yep, havin the same issue right now. No clue where they came from. I'm noticing a lot of mite posts on various forums lately...weird.

First thing lets save you some money. I had a small mite problem one time last year because of a snake I brought in from a big breeder. Thank goodness he called me 2 days after I got the snake home and told me he had found mites on several of his snakes so I immedately checked my snake room and what do you know. I had some mites in the one rack I had put him into and they were on a few of my other snakes by then. I went to WalMart and bought something recomended to me by a friend that runs the reptile section of a big pet store. He said Jay you can buy this prevent a mite for $21 a can or you can go to Walmart and buy their bedding spray, lice treatment. Its called Bedding Spray so its easy to find there and its about 3 or 4 dollars a can instead of the 20 something and it worked perfectly. Its some work you know to get rid of mites but usng the Walmart bedding spray will help save you a bunch of money. You will have to take all the snakes out, change all the bedding, wash the snakes, scrub the tubs and water bowls and then you can put your bedding back in, spray the tubs and bedding with the Lice spray and spray your racks and the area around them. I would wait a day or so to put the water bowls back in so the spray is good and dry and it does not end up back in the water bowls. It is as harmless to the snakes as any of the expensive spray and you should be will on your way to getting rid of the problem. You will need to spray a good sized area around the racks I would think being in the basement and then I would give it about 7 to 10 days and go back and do it all over again. I did that and have not had anymore mite problems and believe me I spot check my snakes every week when I clean their cages and nothing. Here is something I want to put out too everyone too. I use news paper in my cages instead of Aspen shavings just because of the shear bulk of my tubs. I have to pull the paper out, scrub the tubs and reline them every week but I can help but thing that doing it this way helps me keep a mite infestation from breaking out from time to time. See my thinking is if you use Aspen and just spot clean like so many people do that gives any mites that might get into your collection a chance to grow and reproduce for a little while before you notice or find them. It might be comlpetely unfounded thinking on my part that changing out the cage every single week like I do and using paper keeps me from having a problem with mites. Hope you will go to Walmart... I would have to agree on the paper. I do use paper towels though and not newspaper. Ever since my mite problem with my ball, I haven't gone back to my aspen bedding. And its just so much easier with paper towels. Just pull em up, crumple, and throw away. Much simpler than dealing with the aspen.
