Albino Racer..... DEAD

SnakesAndStuff Sep 23, 2003 11:45 AM

I used to be the keeper of an albino southern black racer...

I've had it for about one and a half months or so... It was eating frozen thawed pinks on its own.

I've raised up other racers this way with no problem. I took some photos of the snake yesterday, and actually checked on it last night and all was fine and it was nice and active and appeared to be 100% normal and healthy. I literally checked on the snake less than 12 hours ago and everything was great. Looked into the cage this morning and it was just lying there on its back. It's still in good shape so I'm gonna head out and preserve it here in a little bit. Just upsets me that this snake appeared healhty not even 12 hours ago and is now dead with no explaination. I guess I'll chalk this one up to SDS (Sudden Dead Snake).

Any comments or ideas???

Hey Bob,

As I was saying when I talked with you today. I'm really sorry about that racer. He was gorgeous, and it didn't have anything to do with the way you kept him. Sometimes they may just not have a fully working or devoloped organ. It for sure is a big loss, and all of us racer and coachwhip keepers are all sad to here this too . But I will keep my eyes out for any albinos. And if I see any for sale or something. I have seen this guy who posted on this forum, he had an adult albino western yellow bellied racer. Well man i'm really sorry about that. A FRIEND, WILLIAM H. AND THE GREEN PINE MUSEUM.

That really stinks! I'm sure that everyone on this forum was anxious to see that snake mature. There is nothing worse than having a healthy snake die for no obvious reason. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Was that the one Ben Segal had at the expo? Damned Pity...I just missed seeing it alive.
