Awesome find! If she will eat off an old sock she will eat anything! LOL!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Nice find! What local is this zonata? Cool that it went for mice so readily. Anymore details with this Z? Pretty cool that it has a lot of black on it! Gorgeous specimen

corrinna Jun 19, 2010 12:50 PM

I believe it is multicincta, I know the locality but dont want to divulge that info
one friend and myself are the only reptile freaks that have had the opportunity to hunt this area as it is around private property. and yes I have permission to hunt these areas by the land owners, it is really cool that the land owners have listened to me about this species and its importance in the ecosystem and the benefits the land owners can gain by having them on the property, ridding them off many rattlers/rodents that may otherwise cause damage or injury to human and animal alike
Ill post some pics after she sheds

Nice multicincta haha! I totally understand about keeping the locality secret. Funny enough, my friend actually has property up in the Sierras, Tuolumne county that I am dying to head back up and herp extensively. Went up there recently, but due to our car dying, was too stressed out to herp (imagine that haha)! Area littered with AC...did find a bunch of Contia and Ringnecks in a matter of minutes though.
Funny enough, due to the high black of your snake, I figured it was probably a Sierra.
Once again, great find and gorgeous snake

While I understand the effect of telling the landowners that mtn kings keep the rodents and rattlers in check, the reality is probably much less dramatic. I don't think rattlers make up much of their diet. I imagine the zonata take their fair share of nestling/young mice, but the rattlers/gophersnakes are the bigger rodent controllers. The kings are eating lots of lizards...
