THREE BOA BREEDING QUESTIONS

michaelburton Jun 18, 2010 06:19 PM

First off, Congrats to all of those that have had litters this season! The new combos have been awesome!! I love seeing all the pictures and watching all the videos. This is my second attempt at breeding and so far she looks good. My three questions are:

1. In the last month of pregnancy, my female is going back and forth from the hot spot to the cool side. She used to just sit on the heat. Is this normal?

2. Is it normal for her to look thinner? Not in the front half but where the mass is. Lately, Its been looking smaller to me and my roommates.

3. In the last month, do females drink less water than when they are first gravid?

I know these are silly questions but Im just curious to know what others have observed. Its been a real treat watching this entire process. I find myself sitting and watching her, wondering whats inside her. Babies, slugs, hypos, sunglows, normals, a solid red snake, a two headed snake, a solid red two headed sunglow snake??!!! Anyone else do this? Im really hoping to prove the male out to be het for Sharp. Only time will tell.

On a side note, for those who care to know what I've been up to in the acting world. I just got back from touring with the show Still Standing in Europe. I played one of the leads and it looks like we are going to go on tour again. Hopefully in the US this time.

When did she shed? Did she have the waxy stool yet? Did her water break (looks like she pissed 10 gallons)? If so I would give it a few days maybe as many as 7. Do her scales look seperated like she swallowed a football? Is she eating at all? Or have you not even tried lately not wanting to stress her out?

1) Yes the female will tend to get a bit restless looking for a good spot to have the babies.

2) Yes, the female will get a bit thinner. This is due from the babies are gaining muscle and bone mass. It means you have a healthy well developed litter on its way.

3) Havent really observed this to give an answer. Maybe

At least you have a date. We have a girl that came gravid and is doing all the same things. We just don't have any clue when she is due. She came March 24th and has not fed the entire time she has been here. She did feed the week before that.

Her due date is July 3rd. I've only fed her once since she's been gravid.
