Jungle Squaretails!!!!

GreenAnt Jun 21, 2010 01:16 AM

I hope everyone enjoyed Father's Day!!! It was a busy day for me today, had a lot going on with the family and friends!

Well guys my season is finally over!!! I had my last litter today and it couldn't have ended on a better day than today! The breeding was a Jungle het. Squaretail to a Squaretail. The male came from Gray Rushin and the female from Pete K. I need some opinions on this litter because I'm not sure if all the Jungles are Jungle Squaretails??...From the looks of it they are, but then maybe some can be Jungle het. for Squaretail...The Jungle gene already is a pattern and color morph, so it's hard to say whether they are or not...Input please!!! The Squaretail gene is so weird...I really don't think it's a recessive gene to be honest! I know I have some normal Squaretails in the litter, and some normals...

I don't have any photos in the goo because my brother took my camera snow boarding today.. The litter was born early morning so I cleaned up everything and took the photos in the evening...

Here's dad...

Here's mom...

Here are the baby's!!!!

Well I hear what you were saying on the phone now. No aberrancies but look at that color. I think it is safe to say that you hit on a few jungle squaretails. Can't wait to see them shed out now. With the color of the jungle as well as the color of the squaretail, these should be nice. Awesome year Ant. Congrats.

Ant,

I have been around sq.tails a long time and here are my thoughts;

1. I have never thought of the sq.tails as a het gene and never really understood people using that term with them. To me certain aspects of them are dominant such as; great color (that stays through adulthood), the round spaces in dorsal pattern and some other aspects of the dorsal pattern. Also, sq.tails will to a degree clean up anything they are bred to. So, the features just mentioned can be obtained from breeding a good sq.tail to a normal boa. The ladder tail feature is not dominant and to my way of thinking is mostly expressed as a form of line breeding; you breed two animals with the same feature and you can sometimes obtain that feature in the offspring.

This is not to diminish the value of the sq.tails as the dominate features I mentioned can be very important. I suspect the litter you produced will over a 30 day period, develop some fantastic color and even though there are some definite Jungles, it looks to me that the sq.tail features were more dominate in these babies then the Jungle. I think the sq.tail is a great cross with Jungles and I believe you will be really happy with this clutch.

Just my thoughts.

It's so funny because reading this and seeing norajohn, I thought, this is the exact way Mr. Manser explained the squaretail gene. Sure enough. Glad to see you chime in. Talk to you soon.

.....and albinos......those are definitely where it at. clean markings and HIGH CONTRAST. Too many boa breedings in poor taste out there imo. Gorgeous litter congrats.

Very, very nice! I dig how they've got that very distinct contrast between their top and side colors. They're smoking already, and I can only imagine them as adults. Keep us posted.

A very interesting little to cap off one great season for you my friend. I know very little about both jungles and squaretails but the little critters look fine by me. The jungles do not seem to have very many aberrancies but look super clean and i am sure they will color up real nicely after a shed or two. What a wonderful year congratulations!!!!!

Beautiful crazy and confusing litter Iony !

I believe I see definite Jungles but there are others that will
be very difficult to determine.

Rght now I'd say all these tails say "Jungle"

but I'd like to see all of the others tails together at one time

Congratulations Mr.Ant
