when you step on a rattler

varanid Jun 21, 2010 10:11 PM

Went hiking otday to clear my head after a rough day at work.
Was not paying attention. Rattlesnake was laying slightly curvy, tail on the path, head/body in a prickly pear patch. I stepped into the tail. not smack on, but kind of scuffling my feet into it I guess.
the rattlesnake buzzed and took off. I jumped back.
No pictures. Too busy cussing/freaking out. Good sized c. atrox though. Although it may have just seemed big.

Several conclusions:
Do not hike when distracted.
Rattlers are fairly passive (already knew this).
I am very lucky.
I need to find something else to clear my head. Sangria does not work. Hiking is apparently moderately dangerous.

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.

Do NOT hike until completely sober. But of course, in my case, the hangover would arrive.

I have hiked in a distracted state before, missed some good pics!
You are very lucky your foot was not near the business end.
