Was down in Austin hanging out with a buddy of mine last month when he got a phone call for a snake removal. It was literally 3 blocks down the street, so I tagged along to see what popped up.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this beautiful girl:

She was absolutely beautiful and calmed down immediately upon being picked up. I am still kicking myself for not having kept her.

This guy was seen yesterday morning on the way to work:

He was not happy about the fact that I removed him from a busy road and he sliced the hell out of my finger. A couple of Gexa workers were nearby and one of them says, "you better hope that was just a Chicken Snake." I told him that it was, indeed, a harmless constrictor. He replied, "well, you're gonna get a nasty infection from it." OK, guy.

Yeah, looks pretty bad Doug. Did you try some neosporin? Reminds me of a little hit I took from my corn snake a while back...

The doctor said, "just give it a couple days and it'll be fine".

Oh yeah!,...cornsnake venom is NO JOKE!..LOL!

But seriously, yeah I remember that grizzly pic a good while back. I think that poor soul met up with Mr. Fer-de-lance in Latin America if I remember correctly.

That is truly beyond comprehension man.........can you say SEVERE NECROSIS??.........geeez!

Funny, I recall it being said it was from a Russell's Viper...but then that could all just be a cover-up for SHC (Spontaneous Human Combustion) ...and it does look a bit like it got torched.

Well, either one will give a guy's leg the same great decomposed look...LOL!

Here is a link that said it was a Fer-de-lance bite, but a Russell's Viper ain't gonna give any better results either..LOL!

BTW, yeah, it does look like a roasted chicken leg that was forgotten on the grill!

yeah, we did the humor to a new extreme I guess..LOL!

I really do feel for that 11 year old kid there though. The caption said the pic was taken there just before it was amputated.

I just can't imagine what the poor kid must have went through experiencing all that....

Now go get some Neosporine on that horrible ratsnake bite..LOL!

Oh yeah, I know where that is. I almost went there this spring when I was in Beaumont, but just didn't have the time.

Is that where you found that male? He's awesome!

He was found by someone in the Sulpher area just west of L.C. That person brought it to a local pet store claiming it was a bull snake, when the pet store owners found out that it wasn't they were going to release it and it wound up with me.

He didn't mean any harm. It was pretty funny, though. I love it when people try lecture me about reptiles.

A funny one happened the other day at the medic's office. I am used to the Army's "hurry-up-and-wait" methods, so I brought a copy of Tennant's Texas Snakes to pass the time. A Sergeant looked at me and said, "why are you reading about snakes?"

I told him that I'm fairly new to TX and want to educate myself.

"All's you gotta worry about is those damn rattlesnakes," he told me.

Another soldier chipped in, "and Cottonmouths, them's everywhere in TX!"

"oh yeah," the SGT said. "You can't go fishing without those jumping in your boat. They're mean sunsa[bleep]s."

"They float in huge balls across the water waiting to attack something," said the other soldier.

"Why would they do that," I asked? "Cause they're mean sunsa[bleep]s," said the SGT quite matter-of-factly.

I mentioned that harmless male water snakes are known to congregate in large numbers around females in a type of "mating ball," but they wouldn't hear of it. The only snakes that live in and around water are deadly Cottonmouths and Copperheads.

Luckily, my name was called shortly after that and I left them to their ignorance.

Wow Diego!, that girl in the top pic is really sweet man!

The one's with the nice yellow and/or orange backgrounds like that can't be beat.

Good to know there was a real "snake expert" that drove by and tell you all that great stuff. You would have really been in the dark about it otherwise..LMAO!

yes, I can relate my friend..LOL!

Great looking T-Rats and nice pics, Diego!

I have a tendency to get a bit sarcastic and snotty when ignorant folks try to tell me something about non-ven snake bites. I also tend to do silly things like letting the snake bite me multiple times - to prove a point...
