First '10 Litter is Sunglow Motleys

JasonRobeck Jun 22, 2010 01:07 PM

Finally! The first litter of the year has hit. It's one I wasn't even sure would happen. Never witnessed any copulation. The female didn't swell very much and she never sat in the heat conservation pose. I waffled back and forth over whether she was pregnant or not and just couldn't make up my mind.

It's a small litter, but a nice, healthy one. The father is a motley het albino and the mother a sunglow. Final count was 9 babies: 2 hets, 1 double het, 1 motley het, 1 albino, 1 sunglow, 1 albino motley, 2 sunglow motleys, plus 10 slugs. It's her first litter, and I think a good one.

Here's a shot of the mother from last summer.

Here she is checking out the newborns.

Here's the litter.

Here's the sunglow motleys. I'm liking the striped tail on this firs one.

This one wouldn't hold still, but that elongated neck stripe is too cool.

Nice litter looks like you ended up with some colorful babies that moms color certainly helped!

Nice!

I wouldn't mind a small litter like that one, that's a good
looking momma boa.

Was she eating all the way through?

When was her last meal?

Thanks. I'm glad to have the litter as the mother is the first animal that I produced, held back, raised and successfully bred.

The mom did eat all the way through. I made the meals smaller just in case she was pregnant, but she did continue to feed. She last fed two weeks ago. Last weekend most of my collection was in shed and no one got fed.

She looks great. It's encouraging to hear you say that.

I've got a few here that are keeping me guessing.

I'm pretty sure that one of her distant relatives will be giving
me some sunglows this year. I would LOVE it, if she gave me one
that came close to looking that good.

I was stoked to find this litter, and can't wait to see them once shed. Now I can wait patiently for my other litters to arrive. Yeah right
