West Texas in July?

BlakeMolone Jun 22, 2010 01:49 PM

Im going to the Trans Pecos in July and im not really sure where I want to go. I went to Study Butte last year and saw a few things but I want to hunt some of the eastern localties this time for a better chance to see Alterna.I was thinking about Juno road and Hw 90 but ive heard theres not much activity in valverde in July and was just wondering where the best place to have a chance at seeing Alterna and other cool herps is?

If the daytime temps are too high, you might consider going to locales at higher elevations such as the Davis Mountains. If you access Troy Hibbett's locale and time-of-year data for close to fifty that he collected before the road hunting ban went into effect, you will see that July can be a good month, although admittedly not as nice as June.
