What temps while gravid?

Z_G_Reptiles Jun 23, 2010 12:58 PM

what temps do you keep your gravid BRB's at? 82 correct? also do you offer a basking or not really necessary? and if so at what temp?

Thanks
Zack

I set my thermostat at 82, 2" off floor, overhead RHP. Of course it's warmer nearer the RHP and they are often right under it perched on the rim of the water bowl.

my herp room stays at a pretty constant 82-83.5F and I usually dont give my brb's any extra heatting as this is usually enough, I just wanted to make sure I didnt need any additional heatting while gravid. And there's always a water dish large enough to soak in at all times

Thanks Dave, I'll see about adding a small basking area just to be safe

I keep mine a little cooler. Gravid females are usually in location in the cage that keeps them in the very high 70s to low 80s.

Thanks Jeff, interesting to see how they can be ok in such wide range of temps while gravid, have you noticed if they have a longer gestation period in the little bit of cooler temps? as of right now I'm expecting her to drop in late September early October since her POS was on June 12th and ovulated on May 27th.

Also have you guys ever had BRB's still eat while gravid? so far she has refused

Thanks
Zack

I have noticed that cooler temps does take longer to gestate. Forget the delta. And yeah, most will not eat but some still do. I know when mating season is coming to an end when all of a sudden females start refusing food.
