Boamaster 4x2 Cage and Safety

Scottico Jun 23, 2010 08:35 PM

I recently purchased a 6-foot Dumerils along with a Boamaster 4x2 plastic cage. I like the cage, but I'm concerned that my snake could "lift and push out" one of the sliding doors. I have four children under the age of ten, including a 3-year old.

I put a metal lock on the doors to keep them from opening; but I can still place my hands on one door, lift up and then pull out to remove the door--even if the lock is secure.

I've tried to do the same from the inside of the cage where the snake is and with some work, I can get the door to come out. Now I'm worried that the snake could do the same.

For those of you who have kept snakes for a while--and have actually seen or own a Boamaster plastic cage--do you think it's possible for a snake to get out as I described above?

I don't have the Boamaster cages but do use large Vision cages with similar dual sliding doors. I can also slide up the locked doors with my hands but never had a large snake do that. I have kept BCC boas, green anacondas, and reticulated pythons in them with never an escape with the doors locked. Large snakes will slide one door open if not locked. Bill
