Post-lay regurging

ChrisMaze Jun 23, 2010 09:43 PM

Anybody else ever had the issue? She laid just over two weeks ago. She was a little reluctant to take a mouse a day after laying but did and then regurgrd about 3 days later. I fed her a smaller mouse Sunday and now this ones back too. Should I be concerned here?

I've had females a bit hesitant to feed right after laying before, but not keep on regurging. That sounds like she has some intestinal bacterial issues. I am betting a dose of Flagyl(Metronidazole) at a dose of 50 mg/kg of body weight followed by another dose in 10 days or so would clear things right up. But DO NOT feed it again for at least a good week AFTER the last dose is given. The snake MUST be allowed to rejuvinate it's good gut flora, acids, enzymes, and electrolytes it lost before. This is extremely important, or you could seriously jeopardize the snake's life if this is let go to happen any more.

I would recommend a vet visit to get this done ASAP. It doesn't cost that much, and if the vet isn't sure about what to do, just tell him the dose I mentioned above to be administered via a small tube at the end of a syringe, mixed with approx. 1 cc of water and injected down the snake's throat.

The drug is VERY well tolerated by snakes, and it WORKS extremely well when a specific bacterial problem warrants it's use. I have done this many times myself over the many years of owning snakes, and it was.......PROBLEM GONE! from that day forward.

good luck with things!
