I'm a Hognose Daddy. - FINALLY!

GregBennett Jun 23, 2010 11:47 PM

The little butts are FINALLY coming out. They all better be anacondas for making me wait so long. HAHA!

Well I finally hatched my first Hognose tonight. It's been a very long time in the making (I've had hogs for over 7 years butt never really tried breeding or hatching anything until now.) and I finally have my own little hogs.

To say I'm excited and happy would be an understatement. It was funny but I got a little emotional and almost cried a little when I saw this guys little head.

I ran upstairs and just yelled out, "we got a baby hognose" and my 3 year old daughter got all excited and just kept saying "baby snake, baby snake, baby snake".

Thanks.

It feels (tony the tiger voice) Grrrrreat!

It feels better than being a boa dad. With boas I get everything at one time and don't know what's happening until mom drops but with eggs I'm on pins and needles hoping nothing goes wrong since I can watch them die off and stuff.

I'm hooked that's for sure. I'm slowly selling everything else but my hognose. I just love the little worms and can't get enough of them.

See...about 7 years ago, two years before I started breeding hognose, I had NO interest in them at all and I was more of a boa and blood guy. Things have changed and the hognose to me are really the cream of the crop in every sense, so you're not alone.

That's GREAT! I've been breeding a long time and have produced many different pythons, boas, colubrids and geckos, but still get that "rush" when something pops out, even if it's a $20 animal!

Greg,
I have to say, after hatching well over a thousand reptiles, I still get that feeling every time something pips... I have learned to control my excitement because no one else in my house but my daughter gives a rats tail... LOL... If that feeling ever goes away, its time to get out of reptiles...

Congrats on your clutch Greg... You did an awesome job!!!

Adam_S Jun 24, 2010 08:39 PM
