I heard it was illegal to own any snake in Hawaii...due to the fact that they can all thrive there.
Correct me if I am wrong.

I have family that was stationed in hawaii and so I know that they are not allowed, but I found this on a website. I was trying to find something in writing to back it.

CASE NUMBER: 90
CASE MNEMONIC: HAWAII
CASE NAME: Hawaii Animal Imports

A. IDENTIFICATION

1. The Issue

Hawaii was once a remote tropical paradise, an Eden far
removed from the rest of the world. The discovery of Hawaii by the
Polynesians in 400 A.D. marked the end of the Archipelago's
isolation. The discovery of Hawaii by the Polynesians and the
arrival of Europeans in the late eighteenth century have produced
long-term detrimental effects on Hawaii's ecosystem. Foreigners
who visited Hawaii fundamentally altered the ecosystem of the
islands, primarily via the introduction of alien species of flora
and fauna. New species often overwhelmed Hawaii's fragile habitat,
obliterating many of the island's native populations of plants and
animals. As a result, many species endemic to Hawaii have been
classified as endangered species. Both the U.S. government and the
Hawaiian government have attempted to protect the endangered
species and deter further damage to the island's ecosystem.....

.. Planes flying to Hawaii have also introduced alien predators.
Brown tree snakes which are responsible for killing 9 of Guam's 11
bird species are said to have arrived in Hawaii by slithering into
wheel wells of jets and dropping out when the planes land (see
GUAMBAT case). Visitors to the island have also attempted to
smuggle in snakes. The penalty for bringing a snake into Hawaii
has recently been increased to $25,000. Dogs have been trained
to sniff out foreign species of plants, animals and soils at
Hawaiian airports. An Amnesty program in 1990 allowed people to
turn in a variety of illegal species without legal repercussions.
Among the species that were turned in were African clawed frogs,
coral snakes, and a Hybrid wolf.

There you go. It sucks lol balls, but if you want BP's then you have to move to the mainland or Alaska.

NoobieKid Jun 25, 2010 09:19 AM

that sucks balls big time. o well i guess ill have to get into another project. =

JLSReptiles2011 Jun 25, 2010 10:01 AM

You could always get into some kind of sport or something. That's what I am doing. I take taekwondo classes. I like it alot, but it doesn't take the wanting to breed BP's away. I will always want to do that. This is something to keep my mind off of it so much until I get the money to breed. Then I will still take TKD classes. I would like to start my own school once I get my 2nd or 3rd degree black belt. Testing for my green belt tonight. So I have a little ways to go. It's something to think about. Just do something until you can move to mainland US.

BuzzardBall Jun 25, 2010 10:24 AM

That's all well and good, but what are you gonna do about all that bad info you've been providing????????

JLSReptiles2011 Jun 25, 2010 10:59 AM

I haven't been providing bad info. Who said, “feed it an African rat?” I believe it was you. I also believe I stick to answering basics and leave the breeding questions to everyone else. I don't even know you and haven't ever given you any advice. I'm sure if any of the others that are in here would have seen me give bad advice they would have already sent me an e-mail. All I have to say is I never came into this forum to make enemies or piss anyone off. If I have then it wasn't on purpose. Now please if you would not come at me like that again I would greatly appreciate it. Who knows, one day you may buy your BP's from me one day or vice versa. I wouldn't want to lose a sale from you or potential sales from friends of yours because we have BS problem with each other or the other way around and you lose sale from me and my friends. In the end money is money and having a beef with someone for no reason is stupid. If it comes down to it Buzzard I woukd like to refer people to you and be able to say you are a cool dude, you are a trustworthy breeder and produce some nice animals and I would like for you to be able to do the same with me, but talking smack won't get me to that point where I can say that about you.

JLSReptiles2011 Jun 25, 2010 11:02 AM

Last reply was for you.

BuzzardBall Jun 25, 2010 11:18 AM

Dude, jokes on you! CHILL! I was being sarcastic! I thought your "beat myself up" post was hilarious! There have been plenty of "knuckleheads" on here, but I certainly wouldn't consider YOU one!

BuzzardBall Jun 25, 2010 11:24 AM

What's so whack about suggesting to someone to try an African Rat? As in ASF?????????

Shadow4108 Jun 25, 2010 12:02 PM

a joke is a joke.. Don't take it to personally, but Buzzard I think an apology would not be a bad idea.. and to the other poster.. providing African rats or ASF or African soft furs can be a good trick for stubborn feeders, so I don't see that as bad advice. Lets let this incident fade to memory with no hard feelings shall we? It seems it was all a big misunderstanding. JLS i too have not seen you give ill informed advice and I can respect someone who knows their limits when it comes to what they will and won't advise one. Have a great day to both of you.

JLSReptiles2011 Jun 25, 2010 01:41 PM

Well, thanks for not considering me a knucklehead. I didn't know you were being sarcastic. I get a little defensive sometimes. As far as the ASF I thought you were kidding because the BP's come from Africa. That was my ignorance. Anyway, sorry about the misunderstanding. I hope every one has a good day.

kingofspades Jun 26, 2010 01:48 PM

That's the problem with forums as a medium...there is no way to convey tone of voice other than writing (sarcastic tone)...which kinda kills the joke.

I have a good idea for you. since you cant import snakes to the Islands you could huntdown and collect Brown snakes and export them...lol. That would give you a chance to be involved with snakes and make the local government happy at the same time...lol. I know, I know. A little sarcastic but it looks like we need the humor in here at a time like this. Jay from Sunny AZ

Now Jay, I think an apology is in order! LOL

jaymiller242 Jun 25, 2010 02:04 PM

OMG you guys are killing me..lol. I know what we need, thicker skin..lol. You guys have a great weekend. Im working for the weekend and waiting on my first clutch to pip and emerge from their nice little warm white homes. Its one of my 66% het for Albino females that was bred to my Albino male. I have several of the 66%'ers and would like to decide on them this year as to whether or not they are actually 100% but after the Ralph Davis story of breeding a visual male to a 100% het female he produced and having to do it for 3 years before producing a visual of his own out of the union I guess I will just have to see. Gotta tell you one thing, I am not that patient. having bought these 66% hets from someone else I really dont want to breed them for even 2 yrs if they dont give me some visuals.. I mean who wants to have 75 100% het for Albino babies on their hands...lol. Well I guess it is better than a sharp stick in the eye huh. Adios Amigos. Jay from Sunny AZ
