New Collard Lizard owner

urprettyone Sep 23, 2003 02:57 PM

My hubby and I live in the eastern part of Oklahoma. We went out rock climbing in our Jeep a couple of weeks ago and I came across the most beautiful lizard I had ever seen. He/she is approximately 3in long from tip of nose to tip of tail and has the exact same coloration as Eve's little Lakoda except along the lower part of the sides, close to the belly has some blue/green speckles. After doing some searching on the net I found some exact pictures and was able to classify him/her. I have a collared lizard. I have set up a 10 gal aquarium with a heat rock on one end and a pile of rocks on the other end with a heat lamp above the highest point of the rocks. I will take some pics of the new critter and his little humble home soon. One of the reasons I am posting I also caught another lizard that looks similar in shape but it is much smaller and a different color. I need some help trying to figure out what kind he/she is. Does anyone have any pics of an extremely young collard lizard? Perhaps that is what this other little critter is but with out the true colors showing yet. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kat

Thanks for the link Jumbo I have done yet some more surfing and I have figured out what the mystery lizard is, he/she is what they call a fence lizard. I will get together some pics of them both and post them this evening.

I was checking out the pics you posted Eve, you definitely are full of the info on the collareds, I guess amongst the pics I take tonight I will have to take some ventril shots so you can tell me if I have a little boy or girl so I can name accordingly. LOL

ok I have several pics of the new little one, now how do I post them?

urprettyone Sep 23, 2003 08:47 PM

Here is one of the pics I uploaded. Isn't he/she sweet? BTW I need to find out if it is male or female so I can name it :-D

eve Sep 23, 2003 10:41 PM

Sweet looking, make sure ya give him /her plenty to eat, get fattened up. Also since it is wild caught, make sure you check for mites, and keep a look out for any worms. You may not see any in droppings. But if he does not put weight on, or is lethargic than you may want to have that checked. Looks like you have a new friend. Good luck, they are alot of fun. Let us know what you guys decide to name the baby. Keep posting pics we like them. Eve

Hehe thanks I got him/her to eat 3 crickets tonight by hand. I have pretty much left the little guy alone to get used to his surroundings. Tonight is the first time I have held him/her for any period of time at all. He/she seemed to like it. what do you think Eve? male or female? I have posted another pic of the vent area. Maybe too young to tell huh?

Hi, I went to the gallery, and just can not make out the scales, look at the pic of mine says 2 week old hatchling, it is under yours in gallery look at the large row of white scales under the slit(vent) it is amale. Look at yours and see if it looks the same. Or try and get a very clear pic of the area again. He/ she is really pretty ! Eve

well I have looked, stared and invaded the little ones privacy. The scales are so small I can't relly see them. I guess I will wait another week or two and try looking again. Meanwhile I guess I will try to pick a name that can be a male or Female name. Any suggestions?

I know David Van Langen had a chuck (turned out to be a male) that he names PG...stood for "Probably Gravid."

eve Sep 24, 2003 04:24 PM

and it's personal, you see him, and know him, you have to name him, hehhehehheh, let us know when he has a name. Eve

She was a hound that I found as a pup. She was female but started to grow male parts. I named her Andi before she grew the extra parts, so the name was most appropriate!

Anyway, name the little one whatever you like, if it turns out to be the opposite sex we won't make fun of you!
