the majority of mite sprays, strips, killers, out there in fact do not work well at all. the one and only mite treatment that gets results is black knight. it can be hard to find in any pet store and this is why, all conventional sprays out there even the ones specifically for reptiles suck! so if they do not work work well but they lead you to beleive they do and they are fairly inexpensive($4-10$) you'll be back once a week to buy more and more and more....these sprays have also been proven to cause nuerological damage to the snakes. Black knight is 100% effective and damn near 100% safe for your snake, but also cost about $25-30 a can, well worth it, and you usually have to order through a supply company such as pro-exotics or LLL, for more info type "black knight roach killer" in your search engine, VPI also has some great info on it. good luck!

I've used this myself with excellent results. It's fast and safe . I'm sure if you ask Rob, he will agree this stuff definitely works.

I agree! I've used proventamite with excellent results. I've never used black knite because of the stories I've heard. I'm not so sure that it's as safe as people are led to believe. I could be wrong, but why should I take a chance when provent works so well?

kolleenj May 26, 2003 12:25 PM

i guess its all a matter of opionen i didn't mean to sound like a salesmen, but ive also heard about really bad side effects with provent-a-mite to the snakes, i understood the only harmful side effects with black knight are to humans and not the snakes, i guess what ever works for you!

I think some people have bad experiences from using their products improperly. I've never sprayed Proventamite directly on my snakes. There's no need. If used properly it works great.

Thats true. It's not meant to be use on the animals. If you follow the directions you can't go wrong .

Since I started using it, I no longer panic at the thought of a new snake introducing mites to my snake room. Each post sounds more and more like a commercial, lol.....so run right out and buy your can today, you won't be sorry.

on mandarin ratsnakes, you don't get much more delicate than that (ok, you can, but would you want to?). They were fine.
So I'd say, on average, Provent-a-mite is safer than... mites!

meretseger May 27, 2003 06:17 AM

not ON the snakes, you know? That would be silly.

tyranosaur May 27, 2003 07:21 AM

lol, I know you wouldn't spray it directly on them. And remember folks, keep out of reach of small chil...AUGH...I swear, they're not paying me to endorse!

I usually won't use any poisons but did use that once in a pinch that was almost like an emergency. But they are in Fountain Valley on Brookhurst, I think.

The fastest way to achieve great wealth is by living more poorly for much longer.

They might even send some mites to test it on.
