ANY TIPS FOR GRAVID BOA?

bluediamondjason Jun 27, 2010 01:34 PM

My female red tail is 4 months and 1 week past ovulation.... I thought she may give birth today.. her tail went straight up and the vent opened but she only took a massive dump....

I felt stupid standing there hoping for the babies...

Can anyone give me any tips on what behavior to look for or is this BM considered a fecal plug?

Thanks
Jason

We did the same thing on the 4th of this month with our reverse stripe girl and she is still holding on to her babies. One thing is for sure is that she looks gravid. Also, her taking a "dump" is just her cleaning out her system so that when she does have babies she don't have them in a big pile of poo. As for advice, now pay attention as this is the hardest part, be patient. This is something that all of us preach yet none of us are that great at practicing. We find it pretty hard to be patient with the miracle of life so close. Hang in there and you should be elbow deep in baby goo in no time. Good luck and can't wait to see what happens with her. Who is the lucky guy?

Thank you for your response. She did have the litter just a few days later. 19 fat healthy babies and 1 slug so that was a remarkable first litter for me. I will post pics at the top of this page in a new subject!

they wait for nobody to be around, not always obviously. Mine
seem to have always given birth right after or during hard rain
storms.

I've been doing this for around ten years now. I have yet to
witness an actual boa birthing & I've always kept them inside my
house. It has always happened when I was out of the house.

The waiting can make you stir crazy. I'm losing it that's for
sure.

Thank you for your response! She had 19 healthy beautiful babies and only 1 slug. I actually got to see the last one coming out so I feel lucky! It was amazing.

Here is a link to a video I made if you want to see it.
