Proof is in the Calico Pudding!

Markus Jayne Jun 27, 2010 07:42 PM

So first off I would like to thank my great friend Adey for influencing me for getting into this project. After seeing his Sugar Pastel I knew this was yet another morph I had to get into. I purchased a nice sugar male from Adey that did not go this year and as insurance I picked up breeder calico male from Dan Wolfe that was of the famed Flora and Fauna line. I have to admit that when I got him here I thought Dan had sent me the wrong snake. For those that know me, you know I always try to acquire the best example of every morph out there as my breeding stock. To be honest after close examination of my new breeder Calico male I did manage to find a few white scales. I actually called Dan with admitted concern. Dan assured me that the proof would be in the pudding and man was he right!

My first two clutched sired by the male calico pipped this week. Both females were bumble bees and the pay off was huge. 1.1 Calico Bumble Bees, 0.1 Calico Spider and 1.1 Calico Pastels and 1.1 calicos.

Thanks for looking!

Markus

Markus, I want to say that I think the animals you produced with that Calico from Dan Wolfe look great but I am a bit concerned about your post. You say in your post that you only buy top of the line looking animals and first class stock for breeding purposes. Did you actually buy a Calico sight unseen ? I mean that is not usually something a person does or if they do they dont usually have to post that they had to call the person up, this being Dan Wolfe this time and ask them if it is really a Calico. I am sure that you bought a low white Calico at an appropriate price and got what you paid for. The Calicos are like the Pieds and Stripes, kind of random. You pay less for a lower white animal and as you have shown still produce great stuff from it. I am sure the one you bought could have come from a high white Calico and still been born a low white. Last year I bought a Lemon Blast female I hd to have because she was a superb specimen and I paid about $300 or $400 more than the going price for her at the time because I hoped she would pass on her absolutley broken and reduced beautiful pattern and bright color to her offspring. I will see next year I guess. I also bought a Super Pastel of Dans myself and paid a pretty penny for it but its fantastic and worth every penny of it. Long story short, if you paid top price and got a substandard animal I would not deal with that person anymore, on the other hand if you got whaat you paid for then I see no reason for half of your post. The animals you produced with it look great but I think you did a real disservice to Dan Wolfe with your post. Jay from Sunny AZ

I certainly meant no disservice to Dan. I actually bought 2 animals sight unseen because Dan is a great friend and I trust his word. My point was that with such little white and in the Calico line, you can still make great animals. Dan gave me a great deal and I will continue to do business with him as always. He is one of the best in the business.

Amazing animals! You have to post an update on the calico bumblebee after a few sheds. I thinks it's almost going to be white and black

Looks like you won the Triple Crown of Calico breeding! Congrats Mark - I'm glad that worked out so well. Oh, and thanks again for the fine Canadian brew!

Awesome snakes! I have one of Dan's pastel calicos here, too. I have eggs incubating from breeding him to a super lesser platinum and a spider, with more eggs from another spider and a pastel coming soon. The calico morph is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I'm looking forward to seeing updated photos of your babies and I'll post mine when they hatch. The pastel calico x super lesser clutch is due to hatch soon.
