Help! Baby dragons belly full of gas!!!

kwips Jun 28, 2010 12:29 AM

Hello everyone!

I need some help!! I bought 2 new baby dragons 3 weeks ago and they are doing GREAT! Eating very well, pooping good, alert and full of life. But yesterday evening i came home and the BOTH had a round belly full of gas! So i puth them i bath and one started pooping a bit. And out came a few parts undigested carrots which i gave a few days ago (the size of half the distance between the eyes)!!! So i'm afraid of ostipation. Being late when i got home i went off to bed hoping this morning things would look better, but there is no change. They still have a round belly. Things like tank-setup are okee, i have been using this tank for years to raise babies. So what else can i do besides putting them in bath, gently massaging their belly and try to drip some olive-oil on the nose so they can lick it up? Any help would be great!

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Your temps are too low.

Nope, that's not it! Checked and double checked it. Under the basking lamp it's around 43 degrees celsius.

110 that is pretty decent.

Carrots never get digested that well by dragons... they pass right through most times.

They are most likely just fat.

See if you stop feeding them so much if their tummies go down.

It is not fat either, since it happened in 1 day. I'm sure it is gas, so i'm really hoping for a big poop today. But it's strange the both got it the same day! That's what makes me confused...

Anyway, i have a vet appointement this evening. Have to be sure!

Well, what I'm saying is that you may be feeding at multiple times. As appose to just once and then let the dragons bask until they poop. They need time to digest and process the food properly before feeding again.

The small ones dont have very established gut flora and bacteria colonies yet.

How long are the dragons and how much do they weigh?

Are they still eating bugs?

I would always recommend that vegs, be finely grated for babies rather than chopped.

Here is a good food chart:
