The 'domino'

zenzinia Jun 28, 2010 04:19 PM

I have been calling them ‘X tail’ for now 2 years, since I could not call them ‘square tail’, even thought it feets to their phénotype. Ladder tail is something different for me, it’s when the tail are not striped with ‘ladders ‘.
Now that I have bred the ‘X’ together, I can give them a name, I have decided to call them ‘DOMINO’. I think it feets to their pattern and can be understood in most countries.

Both parents from this 2010 breeding are from the same 2004 litter, I got the 4 live 'square tail' pattern babies from that litter. In 2008 I bred 1.1 of the 4 to unrelated colombians and got the same results with both breedings wich was proving out their dominance. After that, I had to check if they were co-dom, so this year I bred them together.
You will see from the photos that there is obviously no super form, but I will need to wayt after the first shed to figure out is there are some possible markers for the homozygote ones.

Thanks for looking.
Alain.

The breeding pair.

6 years old female after ovulation. Such tails will makes fantastic albinos and combos that will hold colors with age.

Here are the domino babies born the 23 th. .I will update them after their first shed.

72% are ‘domino’, the rest have more or less ‘ladder tails’

It's like reverse stripes that are broken up by the tail color with some of them still having the reverse stripe. I really like them a LOT! Congrats!

Concerning the reverse stripe. In the 4 babies I got in 2004 there was a reverse stripe female and the 'square tail' one that proved out twice. I also bred the reverse stripe one to an unrelated colombian, unfortunately she died 4 weeks before her due date. There was 22 babies and none of them had 'square tail' or reverse stripe !
I think that the ones with the dots could be the homozygotes.
Thanks for the comments.

Here she is gravid.

Very cool project. I wish you would have seen a super though. One of those reverse stripers would sure look good in one of our racks. Congrats on a cool litter and can't wait to see how they progress.
