Introducing... the Spinnerfly!

jluman Jun 28, 2010 04:42 PM

As far as I know this is a first - a spider + pinstripe + fire/sulfur! I hit 1.2 spinnerflies from sulfur spider male x pinstripe female. After hatching fires and now sulfurs I am 1000% sure that they are the same thing.

spinnerfly:

1.2 group shot:

comparison with a spinner clutchmate:

really nice sulfur/fire pinstripe:

whole clutch:

I think these are only going to get better with age, I can't wait to see them as adults!

Good !

But I would have tought that the spinnerfly would be a spinner pastel fire. Or a spinner firefly.

congrats jeff i belive youre right about fires and sulphers. but i do think pro exotics new lemon backs may be a little different! but im only going off what ive heard about them because i dont have them but from what i understand the lemon backs have a striped pattern and the super version has no yellow blotches? please correct me if im wrong maybe they just have not been enough supers produced to date to accurately say the yellow is absent . anyhow congrats on another new great combo. regards brian wilson

Congrats Jeff. You are really killing the odds this year. Keep up the good work, and I hope you still have some luck left to spread to the rest of your incubator.

FireFly and SuperFly and all the other Flies to come, contain pastel.

SpinFire or SpinnerFire is really more appropriate. When you or someone else makes the SpinnerFly or SpinFly THAT snake should be the Pastel/ Fire/ Pinstripe/ Spider.

I've hatched FireFlies and a SuperFly, I feel I have ground to add my 2 cents.

Really? Keep your pennies and your opinion! When someone produces something new they can call it fly, drive, apple, purple or anything else they like as it's THERE project NOT yours! As such Jeff can name HIS animals anything he likes. Don't like it? That's a shame but it's no reason to take away from Jeff's cool new combo by complaining about what he chooses to call it. Glad you got your superfly? Like the name? If not feel free to let me know as I was the first to produce and name it and I would really hate to think someone doesn't care for the name! Let me know and I will rush right out to rename it to your liking perhaps? Geez folks! Let's be adults and reward the hard work with thanks not name whining. My 2 cents..

Actually, he's right. It really should have pastel in it to be a fly. Not because I "want" it that way, but it will GREATLY reduce the confusion later on for new comers just learning the genes.

I take nothing away from his hard work, and I think they are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

joshm Jun 30, 2010 08:57 PM

Every fly has fire in it. Why would that be any less valid then the pastel? Silly. And newbies here names like soul sucker, inferno, sterling, mimosa and dozens more that offer nothing about the genes within.

First off, thanks for the nice comments everyone! It was unbelievable to drive home for six hours after a show and find these little guys in the incubator.

Spinnerfly is the name I gave this combo when I was the first one to make it, when you make some of your own you can call them by that name or not. I don't call a super pastel an "opal" or a pastel mojave a "pastave", I'm not going to lose any sleep if someone doesn't use the name.

I think the fire x spider has been referred to as the dragonfly, I was just trying to keep this combo in line with fire combo names in use so far without getting too goofy.

Why don't pastel/fire/cinnamons or pastel/fire/spiders have "fly" in the name if it's so important for pastel fire combos to use it?

Maybe the pastel/fire/spider/pinstripe can be called "spinnerfly blast" and the super pastel/fire/spider/pinstripe can be called the "killer spinnerfly"? All I know is that it won't be up to me unless I make them first!

Wow Josh... Little hostile don't you think? Just so you know, After Brandon hatched the first FireFlys The name "SuperFly" had already been put to paper by the higher ups. As you and Jeff both saw on Mike and Bob's price lists when you were calling and emailing around to make sure no one had already produced it. The SuperFly existed long before you and I ever hatched them.

Jeff has every right to call them whatever he wants, yes thats true. I was pointing out the obvious.

Please don't act like ball pythons are hard to breed, anyone with a little money to put into them can breed them. I've breed Bci, Rosies, Retics, and Balls.... Balls are by FAR the easiest. The more money you have, the nicer your ball pythons are. I'm involved in this business daily, you will not convince me otherwise. (RE: Hard Work)

lastly, a Mimosa is an adult beverage made with champagne and orange juice. The Mimosa ball is a Champagne Orange Ghost - Makes perfect sense to me...

Big fun! For the record it's a sad day when someone on a forum meant to share and enjoy this hobby takes away from someones project with a negative comment. My post was not meant to be hostile at all just honest about your attitude. You let us all know in you newest post how you feel about this business you claim your involved in every day by bashing those that work very hard at what they do. Dismissing it as "easy" Well sir if that's true for you then great but I'll say over here maintaining a nice, clean productive collection is work! Perhaps you might want to run over to whoever you refer to as a "higher up" and ask them if what they do is easy. I have a hard time thinking they or anyone reading this would agree with you.

Nice clutch Jeff, even the "lowly" Sulfur looks like a great example.
