Jun 29, 2010 10:44 AM

THE REPUBLIC (Columbus, Indiana) 28 June 10 Pet boa constrictor bites Hope baby (Chris Schilling)
Hope: A pet boa constrictor bit a Hope family’s 1-year-old son, causing minor injuries.
The boy, Aiden Burton, was bitten on the hand Sunday night while reaching into a dresser drawer at the Perez family home on Schaefer Drive in Hope, according to Hope Police Department.
George Perez, Aiden’s grandfather, said the snake, which measured about 4 feet long and 2 inches in diameter, escaped its cage and had been missing for a few days.

I can hardly wait for The Republic's next big story... maybe "Toddler Falls Off Trike, Skins Knee."

How the heck did that make it to the media?

...because it was a snake...whats a 1 year old doing rummaging around in dresser drawers anyway especially with a snake on the loose?...and why did they report it to the police?...

Calparsoni Jun 29, 2010 01:31 PM

If they took the kid to the hospital for treatment the doctors most likely had to report it to the authorities.

...that makes sense...at least it was just minor injuries and not to big a fuss was raised about it...yet...

With all the family dysfunction in America, anything involving snakes/boa constrictors/pythons, just rises to the top. Anything to get readers' attention.
Yesterday, I heard that 18 infants have already died this year from being left in closed vehicles by those responsible for their safety and wellbeing. Not a pleasant way to go. Let's worry about the snakes, OK?
