breeding ? on Kahl vs Sharp Sunglows

f2smooth Jun 29, 2010 05:01 PM

Hi.. now i may be wrong but ive heard that the Kahl ganetics can not cross with the Sharp line is this true? the reason i ask is i have two females, a Sharp Sunglow ( ready to breed by next season) and a Sunglow (Lipstick) line that wont be ready for a few years.. does anyone have any suggestion as far as a Male genetics to lock my Sharp sunglow female with.. I want to produce somthing a little different as far as sunglows.. or do i just get another Male Sharp Sunglow? any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks
PS.. Ive owned Suris, peruvians and guyanas most of my life and am starting to get into sunglows and there many genetics..

Your right that the sharp gene and kahl gene are not compatable , bred together you just get wild types het for both
If it was me I would go with a pattern morph like , jungle, motley or arabesque het sharp to make some pattern sunglows

Correct. Just get any good looking Het. Sharp.

From what I have heard is that crossing sharps and kahl strain boas is a no no because its disrupting the bloodline and breeding two albinos together is also a no no because in most cases the babies come out deformed due to the albino x albino breeding and just adding the hypo gene doesn't change this.

Therefore, I think breeding a sharp sunglow to a kahl sunglow is a BIG mistake and am sure others will agree. I would breed that sharp sunglow to any co-dom morph het for sharp like Hypo Motley het Sharp and produce some great looking Sharp Sunglow Motleys?

Just my opinion!

Albino X Albino does increase the chance of birth defects, but from what I've herd is if you breed 2 completely unrelated animals you should be fine, but the albino gene in boas is very sensitive to inbreeding of any kind. This is just what I hear and haven't gotten a chance to test that yet, I have a Kahl albino I got from PK and a sunglow boa from a company in Canada that I plan to breed together and see how it goes.

You are always taking a chance breeding two albinos together because the albino gene itself is a weak gene but I do know some breeders that have a had a successful litter breeding a sunglow to an albino with only a couple deformed babies from a litter of over 20 but I have also heard of some disasters from this breeding. I guess it's up to the breeder keep in mind that any boas you breed your taking a chance on getting deformed babies.

well me i would breed them to het visual patern lets say a jungle het sharp but since you have two different types of albino there your going to need two males most of the kahl lines are pretty affordable but when it comes to the sharp well lets just say you get what you pay for so i would look at genetics that are popular and look good to you for the sharp i would go with a basically boa paradigm or a para het and big Mike has some great animals now if you want to go totally different i would look into three visual lines the swedish line jungles , the key west , or go crazy with it and go blood , depending on your finances what ever you decide im quite sure it would be the cats meow to ya and good luck

Hey your the total opposite from me!!! I used to keep the morphs and now I am leaning more towards the true BCC's and BCA's!

So my advice is to sell them both and buy some more BCC!!! LOL!

Sorry, not much help am I. I'll get me coat.
