Puffy tail on a female?

TSUSnakeGuy Jun 29, 2010 11:56 PM

I just got a new adult female redtail that someone didn't want anymore. She is about 6 foot long but way way under weight. Her previous owner didn't want her to get to big so they fed her one live rat every month. Unfortunetly that is not first time I have heard that when taking in an unwanted redtail. But she has no scars so that is good.
The problem is that about 1.5 inches of the base of her tail is kinda puffy and thicker than the rest of her tail. She is definitely female, so does anyone have any idea?

by any chance does it look like this? This was a male that had an abscess just after his hemipenes. He had to have Surgery to remove it and clean out the infection and put on antibiotics, then it came back and it had to be lanced and they left the wound open this time for me to clean out with a betadine solution and put back on antibiotics, but it's finally getting better and doesnt seem to be coming back yet.

I have seen this on a couple females in the past. Not sure what to make of it but just keep an eye on it. Does it almost look like a gas bubble in the tail?

sounds like it could be some sort of infection, is the under side of the tail where the swelling is red or pink? or just kinda puffy? I personally would bring it to the vet just incase it is an infection to get some anitbiotics to treat it before it gets too bad.

There is no color or redness. It just feels a little puffy almost fatty
