Pea sized ball in snake feces?

pyromaniac Jun 30, 2010 09:21 PM

Has anybody ever seen this before? It was with a normal defecation. The snake in question has passed a similar material a few times before this, but this is the largest one. Other wise the snake, a cb male, seems healthy with a good appetite, although he is not growing as fast as his sister. He is the only snake in my collection who has ever passed such a strange material. I have saved this thing to take to a local vet for analysis.

I had a BP about 4 years ago get backed up where he did not deficate for a while. The vet milked these hardened balls of urates out of him. They were much bigger than a pea and there was more than one.
The vet called them a particular name but I can not remember what it was. This was right after I purchased him from a local reptile store (go figure) the underlying problem was a URI that was treated but I dont know if thats what caused him to get backed-up? It never happened after that and he was sold some time ago.

hope that helps.

I also had this happen with a Ball Python I got from someone. I got the hard ball out of him and he got much better. I also had this with 2 gray bands, it can mean that something else is amiss. Just watch it for a bit and put it on newspaper so you can find the fecies and check up on it. If it keeps happening, give your vet a call.
