Another new Florida king morph

Bluerosy Jun 30, 2010 10:22 PM

Not 100% sure what this is yet but I think it is a Jelly Ghost. Notice the pitch black eyes.

I guess i should wait until the first shed before posting anything. But I get excited sometimes.

Sorry I meant to say it is a Peanut Butter Ghost and not a Jelly Ghost.

It resulted from a triple het breeding of Peanut Butter x Hypo x Axanthic.

Just had a Peanut Butter hypo pop out as well as regular Ghosts, axanthic, hypo and Peanut Butters.

Anyway this is the first Peanut butter Ghost from this triple het 123 line. I never seen one before. i produced several clutches from the 123 line last year and never got a Peanut butter Ghost. This is the first one. Woo HOO!

Actually Peanut butter Ghost is the wrong term. A Peanut butter Ghost would be a Peanut butter x axanthic homozygot. I think this is a triple homo of Peanut butter Ghost which equals a Peanut BUtter x Hypo x axanthic (Ghost = hypo and axanthic).

Maybe the "Vampire brooks" would be a better term trying to describe it.

No, actually the Phantom is a Peanut butter x "Anerythristic" and not a PB x "Axanthic". The Anery is different from the axanthic gene. I never produced a Peanut butter AXANTHIC before nor a PB/Axanthic/hypo (aka PB Ghost from my above post).

So yes a Phantom is a PB x Anery homozygot. But these are from a triple het PB x Axanthic x hypo breeding. So no Phantoms possible in that clucth.

BTW I did get a couple Phantoms today from another clutch. But i don't pay those much attention as i have done those before. I am looking and awaeing over the new morphs that are just popping out.

I know you can't tell what demeanor I am writing under but, I am writing this like a giddy overexcited school child. Actually nothings changed since I was a child when it comes to receiving a new snake surprise. I still act the same way I did when i was a kid..I am no different than when my parents bought a Calif Moutain kingsnake baby and had it hid under the christmas tree. They reorded my antics that christmas and it is really embarrassing. Now i guess not much has changed when it comes to getting new snakes.

Rainer, I'm gonna break into your house, get into the snake room, and remove all the labels off the containers! LMAO! Sure, you could recognize a good number of em, but with all those morphs and hets and possible hets to me that would rank right up there with any horror movie ever! I just imagine the work and organization that goes into your collection....Time to start thinking up some new NAMES again....waiting on the Rosy Blue Kingsnake....

Bluerosy Jul 01, 2010 05:32 PM

Multi het projects make all the hard work worth it. Better than just breeding plain old traits where you know what you are going to get. I'd rather get something different and new than do the same thing every year.

i have another 3 clutches hatching out as i write and i have even more now. On clucth clutch of 12 eggs from a triple het breeding just hatched and has all recessive traits. Woohoo, no normal pos hets!! And they all hatched out quick! Ever have that happen ? Some eggs take 3-4 days to all emerge and some will surprise you and all be out with a couple hours.

I honestly don't know how multi het projects can be beat. When you get one of everything and anything inbetween. That is the fun of multi het breedings. Every egg is something different and NEW and unexpeted and exciting...Wait till i sttle down and i will give proper names and pics of everything. Right now I must have sevral new morphs never before seen or produced.

Rainer I guess it's safe to say that the temp drop did not adversly effect the health of any eggs? That's great news.

Yes and it is funny you mention that as someone else i was talking to over the phone from the forums asked me the same thing.

I was used to putting my eggs through fairly hot temps 95F-99F and they survived. But never had eggs get that cold. They felt almost like little eggsicles.
