Is this a first?

avinagg Jul 01, 2010 05:13 AM

Ok,Is this a first?, been looking around to find similar online but I cant find anything similar. Its from a Ca het t female and one of only 3 babies that were born 28/06/10. Sadly the two normal of spring didnt make it but this little beauty did. It's female, which is a shame, is obviously blue at the moment, almost black with a clear belly which blends to a little speckled section which inturn turns solid in colour,it has very slight markings on the tail. I look forward to your input guys.
Glenn

What was the father?

It resembles a super motley to me.

Indeed it does look like a super motley, but dad was a het t too. Add to that we had no visual T
Strange I know

Yes, but you said that there were only three babies in this litter, it's possible that the odds just weren't with you.

But, like Eric mentioned, it also resembles an onyx. But you said that the belly is clear. The onyx has a bright orange belly.

well you're right about the odds of course but we did get visual T from our first pairing = same father diferent female. And I would also point out that i would have had to pair motley to motley to get supers no?
with regards the belly, the baby is blue at the mo so will photograph the belly when out of shed. I've also mailed FREEK NUYT with pictures (thanks Eric13)to see what he thinks.
Cheers

Actually you do not necessarily need to breed a motley to a motley to produce super motleys. There have been breedings of motley x normal that have produced supers. Not sure if there's been a normal x normal pairing that's produced supers though...

I'm curious to find out what Freek's thoughts are.

It sure looks like an Onyx (congratulations!) even though its belly isn't orange, in my breedings i have seen that there is a variation in the orange bellys some are not as intense but more paler so this could just be a variation in the morph.

Here is one from this years breedings for comparisson

Thanks!

Hi there and congrats.
She looks like an ONYX to me which was first bred by F.Nuyt(http://www.fnreptiles.com/HTML/collection_boas_ONYX.htm).
Have fun with your stunner.
cheers,
Eric

I am glad I could assist you.
Always nice to breed a morph as first like we did this year with our Aztecs!

cheers,
Eric

Not sure what to label it but a friend of ours imported a Nic in 04' that is completely patternless black like this. I would definitely hang onto it and see what happens. I do know that the one our friend has is female as well and was supposed to be getting bred this year. Let me ask a question or two to him and see what he thinks.

Hey Zach, can you send me some pictures of that Nic? I'd love to see it.

I have emailed him to see if he will shoot me some pics. Actually I have been waiting about 5 or 6 months to see the Nic among pics of some other animals. He is a busy guy but will get back to me later today I am sure. I will let you know.

Very neat looking boa!
It's head and tail remind me of my leopards when they were young, without the patterning on the body. Very, very cool!
