Florida king morphs and trade names

Khaman Jul 02, 2010 12:26 PM

Here is a list I have so far that has been produced. I know I am missing a triple homo “Blizzard” that Rainer produced last year but I could not figure out the components. Anything else I’m missing?

Also Anerythristic and Axanthic have been used interchangeably pretty extensively until an “Anerythristic B” or Axanthic was discovered to be a Separate gene so if I have a cross wrong please let me know.

Peanut Butter X T Negative Albino…………………………..Jelly
Axanthic X Hypomelanistic …………………………………....Ghost
Anerythristic X Lavender ……………………………………....Snow
Anerythristic X T Negative Albino…………………………….True Snow
Anerythristic X Peanut Butter ………………………….…..…Phantom
Hypomelanistic X T Negative Albino …………………………Sunkist or Sunglow
Hypomelanistic X Lavender……………………………………......Hybino
Hypomelanistic X Peanut Butter………………………………...*****
Hypomelanistic X Peanut Butter X Axanthic……..............……*****
Jelly X Axanthic………………………………………………...........Pewter
Peanut Butter x Lavender x Anerythristic…………...............…Cinder
Peanut Butter x Lavender………………………………………......Peabino

I like the Cinder trade name. I really wish herpetoculture was together on the trade names for morphs because it would make it real easy to know what a snow, ghost or anything is and what to call what.

That is a pretty good list there. There is still the Whistesided traits mixed in but that will just be a continuation of the other morph names combined with that.

I always called the PB x hypo a "Hypo Peanut Butter" for simplicity sake. But never had a name for the Hypomelanistic X Peanut Butter X Axanthic. Somebody mentioned the name Vampire because of it black eyes and ghostly look.I think that would be a cool name.

But I really should wait to post pics after shed so everyone can see what all these new morphs really look like. A lot of these newly hatched morphs change color not only after the first shed but sometimes immediatly after getting a couple pinkies down thier digestive tracts.

I agree on the trade names, a snow should be an Anerythristic X Albino but unfortunately the gene that best expresses what we think of as albino the T-, was discovered after the lavender albino so we have to contend with that. We also have a second gene that expresses Anerythristic, so the common morphs using strain “A” can also be recreated using strain “B” with similar results to the phenotype. This further complicates identification.

I think as far as finding trade names, looking to the other species to find interesting names is a good idea. Corns alone have 15 different color traits and have some very colorful names for their crosses.

I left out crosses with Whitesides and Mosaics because most likely they will be just as you said a WS or Mosaic this or that.

Here is a list of all white corn morphs though none really lend their names to peace and tranquility.
Avalanche
Quartz
Powder
Whiteout

BTW my vote for Hypomelanistic X Peanut Butter X Axanthic is Specter or Specter

The whole Anery and Axanthic thing is very frustrating sometimes. Does any one have any pics of comparisons when used in combos? Like a Ghost using Anaery and one using Axanthic, or snows from both genes?

Both the Ghost and Snow anery and axanthic look like night and day. It produces a very different look in both. The axanthic snows (aka pearl Snows) are not not very white and the anery snows are. These are pretty common so it should be easy to dig up pics.

To add confusion to the Ghost. Now we have a Peanut Butter Ghost as well. Basically a Peanut butter x axanthic, instead of a hypo x axanthic homo.

I think I may have both of the snow types. They are still young so their colors will probably change a bit.

Here is one from Don Shores

This one is from Isis

I know, I know. I should wait until they shed .

This clutch is from a PB x axanthic x hypo triple to triple het breeding. This clutch is not finished hatching yet, so some are still due to come out. So far every one that has emerged is a morph.

It is hard to tell what they are until they shed. But the light ormnage one on top is a Hypo Peanut Butter (Hypo x PB homozygot)

Here is the blizzard you mentioned but i still don't like the name considering it is my single favorte snake in my collection.

if there was a fire and I could only grab one, this would be it. I like it mostly because of its demenaor. It handles like wet noodle. Complete zero stress and does not even try to get away. It is really hard to find that with any solid white colubrid with red eyes. All the white snowish type morphs I know of in Milks and kings are extremely stressed and agitated.

T neg
Hypo
axanthic

Maybe an Albescent phase Brooks, or maybe a Leucous phase, not quite leucistic?

Bluerosy Jul 04, 2010 12:24 PM

I think what i might do here is the same thing when the Peanut Butter got its name. i will post the suggestions made on this thread and have a vote.

First I have to wait until this snake sheds and i get some nice pics. Then i will list the suggested names and see if there is a one sided consesus.
