Hey everyone
Just thought I'd post an update of my findings.
I have been trying to feed my male 1500 gram bp on a regular schedule for a while now. Offering food every week. He's a big fellow with a not so big appetite.
He will only eat on or after the 30 day mark. Its actually amazing how well all animals can track time (including us)! And this is a perfect example of it.
He will not eat on the 29th day or any other day before the 30th... but on the 30th, you better watch out! He is ready and waiting from morning till night until fed. But only 30 days after the last feeding. And he will continue to eat and hunt until the day is finished.
One month he eats on the 30th but due to the extra day in every second month I am forced to adjust the date incrementally so I dont get bitten. And he knows when 30 days is up. After he is fed, he resumes his natural calm behaviour and refuses to bite me or feed for another 30 days.
Its taken a while to deduce this behaviour and it was only possible with accurate record keeping. I thought my setup was inconsistent but my record keeping has disproved that.
And if there is one thing I've learned (even though I did it from the start when the snake hatched out) is that keeping an accurate record of each snake's behaviour is paramount for success with these animals.
There is no other way.
Again, thanks to everyone on kingsnake for the advice. My snake (who I decided to name "muthaf*%$a"
is just a good scheduled feeder after all...despite my ignorance =).
