Mexican Black Kingsnake

Hello,
I just picked up one of these guys, and he's my first King snake. Just wondering if anyone had some info to share on them.

Thanks!

I just recently got one too. And it has been my experience to date that there really isn't anyone on here who is willing or able to offer any kind of info. on the Mexican Black kingsnakes. I hope you have better luck than I have.

Hello,
I only come to this forum periodically, but have kept black kings for a couple of years. Do you have any questions in particular? I have found these thrive with standard kingsnake setup and temps, and mine eat well as adults on 1 mouse each every week. I have had my male since he was a hatchling, and has never given me any problems.
He just reached breeding age this year. I bought an adult female at a show here in Tampa in March with the intents of breeding. Although neither the male or female (I am assuming) were prepared for breeding, I put them together that first night she came home and immediately locked up! She went on to produce a clutch of 7 fertile eggs which all hatched successfully. She then later gave me a second clutch of 5 eggs, which are in the process of hatching as we speak.
Just wanted to share my experience (and the luck) I have had with these, I would be more than happy to share any of this info more in depth if interested.
Thanks, and good luck!

I have a male Mexican black around 40 inchs long and is as calm as any snake I have ever owned. I purchased him as a sub-adult and as always been laid back from day one. Excellent choice for temperment and they don't get as long as some of the other kings. Average around 42 inchs in length. Same care as for Cal Kings & Corns. The ones that are Jet black with no speckling are the desired choice. Good luck.

I have a mexi-black in my classroom . He is calm, curious, and even friendly. Instead of hanging out in his hidebox or burying under the substrate when the children approach his cage, he raises his head, tongue flicks, and many times moves closer to them. As a hatchling/juvenile he was a bit spastic when picked up--he's the king who educated me about musking and fecal matter for defense--but with consistent handling, he's calmed down to be a great goodwill ambassador for legless scaly creatures. Even the parents eventually become interested in him and begin to ask snake questions.

These are excellent pet snakes. Babies seem to be less nervous than chain and California kings. Their care and breeding is virtually identical to that of a corn snake. They are also right up there with corn snakes in my book as far as being one of the best pet snakes. I just hatched the 2nd clutch of 12 eggs that my female gave me this year.
