My only cape gopher. A 2001 red phase male from Vivid Reptiles.

One splendid vertebralis. Love that distinct color and pattern combo throughout. Looks like some bimaris influence perhaps?

Thanks for your compliments!
The breeder would get both red and orange phases, of which I had both at one time, out of the same clutches.

Definitely very beautiful and interesting looking with the dark coming all the way up so distinctly. Gotta love the variety.

I'll try and put up some shots of our capes as well in the next few days.

Thanks!
Please show off your capes as well! I would love to see them!

I absolutely love that cape! I agree with the above post, reminds me of bimaris. Did Tim have locality data on these too?

I see the thoughts on bimaris similarity to a point, but, at the same time, capes can look like this as well, due to the possibilty of variability.
As far as Tim having locality info, he may have, but that would be something you would have to ask him.

Thanks!

I just know that bimaris become more red in the southern part of their range. Makes me wonder if this phase of the vertebralis is more common in the northern part of their range, closer to the bimaris as it does look similar. It has also been noted that the two have an intergrade zone and bimaris is considered by some to be a color variant and not a distinct subspecies. They are definitely closely related.

If I ever get a cape, it will look like that one! Don't see enough of red phase around.

I agree with ya!
I also agree that you don't see enough of these red phases around.
