DISCERN Jul 03, 2010 11:26 AM

My 2006 Davis Mtn. Bullsnake from Vivid Reptiles. One of my favorites in my collection.

Those colors and that pattern scream affinis rather than sayi. A splendid example of one at that. Must be from that intergrade zone between sayi and affinis or close enough to it. In any case, the Davis Mtn. population leans greater than 90% in the direction of affinis. I'm guessing that Davis Mtn. is somewhere in TX or NM. No?

Davis Mtns. are in TX, and yep, it is very possible, that these bulls are integrades, and are advertised as such.

Thanks!!

I forgot, to add in my last post, but I feel that the pattern is more bullsnake, personally. Interesting to say the least.

Good thoughts! Thanks!

Dorsals a bit more concentrated along the high mid-line but compare dorsal shape and tone with this affinis from southwestern AZ. The devil's often in the details with gophers and bulls. Locality snakes can sometimes be maddening due to all of the variation.

A very nice snake. Is this a Cuesta del burro that Tim advertises or a not so reticulated davis mountain? I have been drooling over his cuesta del burro but ended up buying some christmas mountains that some other member sold to me locally. I'm confused when it comes to these intergrades and even so, they are so variable among same locale that I just went with the easy local pick up and am crossing my fingers that they turn out cool looking.

DISCERN Jul 03, 2010 10:54 PM

Yep, it is the " reticulated " Davis Mtn. bullsnake type from Vivid.
You are right, some of the integrades can be confusing, due to ranges, patterns, etc..
Post pics if you can of your Christmas Mtns!

Great looking snakes. Doesn't matter exactly what it is as those snakes from that area are obviously extremely closely related and probably reach similar sizes.
