paradox ivory superstripe?

bsr inc Jul 03, 2010 08:23 PM

wierd paradox came out of the egg. While It was in the egg I thought it was just a cool paradox ivory. But if you look at it closely it actually looks like a paradox ivory superstripe.
The head looks 50% super stripe-25% normal(or yb) and 25% ivory. The first band looks more normal--the second band and tail look like a superstripe. Click the link to see the video

Wow, that's a gorgeous snake! I especially love his face! I can't help with the genetics end of it but sure did enjoy the picture. Congrats!

Based on the fact that NONE of us have produced a visual Super Stripe when a Super Stripe is bred to a non YB or non Whirlwind/Specter it is 95% safe to say at this point that Yb and Whirlwind/Specter are in fact alleles of each other.. That would mean that unless a "cross over" occurs there is no way a Super Stripe Ivory is even possible to create. That would be like saying you made a Super Mystic Mojave , you can make a Super Mystic or a Potion BUT you CAN'T make a Super Mystic Mojave . Just like you can't make a Super Mojave Lesser, either it's a Super Mojo , a Super Lesser or a Lesser Mojave , no such thing as a Super Mojave Lesser however , isn't possible from what I understand. When your talking alleles (2 versions/variations of a "like" gene) then some things are not possible to make.. I myself have 2 very strange Paradox Ivories and I do think they can have another non Yb/Whirlwind gene showing, BUT if there is a genetic gene there (some won't end up genetic but I do think some will prove out to be carrying another gene) the gene it has is NOT a Whirlwind /Specter gene that you are seeing at all. If it was in fact a type of Super Stripe it could only have 1 copy of Yb NOT 2 as the Ivories do and the other copy would have to be Whirlwind/Specter . Really is pretty simple if you think about it.

Look at the picture--to me that rear pattern and part of the head looks like a superstripe. Its kind of hard to deny. I dont know what it could be, but that one rear section of pattern looks like a super stripe. I mean ivories look kind of like super stripes in my opinion, just white. Would make sense that in some kind of genetic anomoly such as a paradox that different genes could poke through. I mean genetically speaking this paradox could be a normal ball. Look closely at the head and the paradox and ivory bands--there is no doubt that there is not just ivory and yellowbelly/normal going on--there is definately a third gene shining through.

And anthony--just to be clear--I do not think this animal is an ivory superstripe-thats not what I was calling it--I am calling it an ivory, superstripe, normal/yellowbelly or none of the above--I mean it is a paradox. There are many keys and locks in the ball python world. We are only just starting to scratch the surface. Here is a pic of the other paradoc we made--she is about 1000 grams now.

hey anthony, there is a reason it's called a Paradox. It isn't supposed to happen. nothing would surprise me nowadays with ball pythons.

What if the snake is a chimera?

Then you have what is essentally 2 snakes blended together in one body and it can experess more traits than a snake normally can.

Chimera is the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic of that paradox.

here is a picture of a rear section of a superstripe(courtesy of Albey found online-) just compare the two. I am not computer savy enough to post the pics side by side, but I am sure someone can---the similarities are a little more than just coincidence in my opinion.

If you get into breaking down the visual details on alot of this Ball Python stuff you'll notice alot of things that will make you really scratch your head!

Couple pics for fun!
The first pic I took on the hood of my Tahoe a week or so ago, not sure what the heck kind of moth that was but it was probably the coolest looking moth I have seen here in Iowa and I've lived here all my life! Having a camera that works seems to be helping! I played around with the reflection a little as you can see! Took several other pics of that moth that turned out cool as well.

Hope everyone had a nice 4th!
