king id?

wccs2001 Jul 04, 2010 08:06 AM

i'm thinking about buying this snake but think the owner may be misidentifying it as a hypo brooks. is that right? the pictures aren't great; he'll send me clearer pics later today.

also, if it is a brooks, what is the max length? i have a l.t. campbelli, so i'm used to a much smaller snake, i think.

thanks

It was hard to tell until the last pic you posted. It is a hypo brooks.

Why what else did you think it was?

i'm not good with morphs at all. so i didn't know. or have any clue. my only source for checking it internet. when i pulled up pics of hypo brooks, they either had no orange (with the stripe pattern) at all, or no pattern (with the orange) at all.

thanks for helping.

Yes it is a Hypomelanistic Florida Kingsnake.....
An internet search isn't a great tool to identify a Floridana/Brooksi morph because if you search for a Hypo Brooksi you will see many pictures of adults and not hatchlings or yearlings.......

You see Floridana/Brooksi neonates go through an extensive ontogenesis......When adults they look hardly anything like they did when they emerged from the egg.....

Hypo Floridana have orange and some black pattern at birth but as they age they loose this pattern with every shed until there is almost no orange or black pattern/pigment.....
