Amel or Creams

ChrisOz Jul 04, 2010 09:45 AM

How do I tell the difference? These guys are from a Snow to Cream so they they should be albinos right. They have alot more purple color to them than the albinos from years before when I did the Sunglow to Creams and the rest of the color is lighter.

Although originally named for their pale, light orange color, "Creamsicle" has little to do with what a snake looks like. A Creamsicle is an albino with Great Plain Ratsnake genes mixed in. There are some snakes with only a very small percentage of GPR in them that look like everyday albinos - these would still be considered Creamsicles - even though they don't look like it. There are some very pale orange albino "pure" corn snakes - these would NOT be considered Creamsicles, even though they look just like one.

There is no way you can know if a corn snake is a Creamsicle unless you know it's complete genetic history.

Thanks. I was told when it was a baby it was a Harvest Corn what ever that is. I have only seen them once on Kingsnake and they looked identical. I Emalied someone a pic of him as an adult and was told it was a Creamcicle.

Like Tim said, creamsicle originally referred to only the orange "creamsicle" looking ones like he pictured but it is now synonomous with great plains (emoryi)/ corn crosses expressing amelanism.
So a snow (amel/anery corn)to a cream (corn/emoryi cross expressing amelanism) would give you amels with great plains blood so they would be called creamsicle to indicate the "mix"
some are almost impossible to detect the emoryi blood so this makes it immediately clear that the snake is not only corn.

many refer to creamsicles with less than 50% emory blood in them as 'dilute' creamsicles.

i have a female that is only 12.5% great plains. she is an f2 produced from a dilute creamsicle (75/25) and a blood red pairing. picked her up because she has the more symmetrical pattern from the emory and a light pink ground color. if bred to in the future all offspring will still be referred to as creamsicles.

they would be tainted amels in most eyes....

albinos with some emoryi blood in them.....

.......some people really don't want the emoryi blood in their home / collections.....

....they will vary in color ....amels usually do to an extent anyways......

that's why it is better to label any amels with even the slightest amount of emoryi blood as creamsicles.
or simply amels with emoryi blood.
There are many many people who want nothing to do with corns with known "mix" blood.
This way it is an instant indicator of impurity.
Of course there is always the debate on "purity" in corns but no sense going into that again and again

I know...

and I know I see "cremes " at shows and want to scream all the time they are so wrongly colored....

I get the point ....I know what you mean....

.....good luck.....
