Im kind of confused can yall help

alouicious Jul 04, 2010 07:43 PM

Ok so the spider i bought this weekend is a striped spider, but im confused because they didnt have het on the tank he was in. but i think he is visible for both spider and stripe, i didnt think that was possible. i asked the lady but she hasnt responded yet. She said he carries the striped gene, so im assuming that he is spider het stripe, but he looks visible stripe at the same time. so thats why im confised, so if yall could help me clarifying this for me id GREATLY appreciate it. Ill put his pic in this bulletin, oh and HAPPY 4TH to EVERYONE!!

The Spider in the picture has a black stripe down his back. A Genetic Striped Ball would have a Gold stripe or wide stripe down its back. I think what you have is a nice Spider with the normal black coloring forming a stripe.

lots of spiders have a kind of genetic striping from the spider gene. It has nothing to do with the separate "genetic stripe" line. Just for whatever reason many spiders have gold striping that they can pass on to their offspring. your does not look like one of those however.

he had a sister that had a whole gold stripe down the middle of her back and the lady said he could possibly produce that. she said he carried the stripe gene so idk if that means hes het stripe or if hes just a normal spider. thats what threw me off because she said he carries the stripe gene which would mean hes het stripe right? correct me if im wrong. but she did show me the pic of his sister and she had the long gold stripe down the middle of her back with no breaks in her stripe. also the reduced pattern on his sides made me think that he was possibly visible for the stripe too. idk this is just confusing to me. i mean i like him regardless. im from new orleans so the x on his head made it easy for me to name him since jeremy shockey is an x factor for the saints. so thats how i got his name.

No he is not het genetic strip. If she was saying that he carried the gene for stripe spiders then it is the one Evan Stahl was referring to, not being het for genetic stripe. Reread Evans post again. He tells you about the genetic stripe he is referring to. The one he is referring to is not genetically recessive. It is a codom stripe gene that happens with the spiders. The mother or father had it and your little guys sister had the visual stripe. Which means that when you breed your male you may have a chance of producing a baby that looks like its auntie, but you can't charge any more for them than any regular old spider. Nice looking snake though and it will be one of the morphs I start out with along with a lesser.

it may carry the ability to produce striped spiders but it is not a het, it just seems to be a common inheritable trait in spiders likely tied in to the original pattern mutation of the spider

It is normal for some Spiders to have a striped appearance. Below is a picture of my male breeder Spider. He carries no striped genes in him, but he does produce really nice Spiders.

I'd try to get back with the breeder . I agree with what the others are saying here but there is also the possibility that the breeder bred a Spider to a Genetic Stripe (Genetic Stripe is recessive) so it is possible to have a Spider that's Het for Genetic Stripe yet not visually that big of a deal due to the fact that G Stripe is recessive . Genetic Stripe is known for making alot of "black backed" looks too. I actually doubt that's what the breeder did but that cross has been done and it does exist (1st made by Kevin at NERD I think) so I'd try to find out to be sure as only the breeder would have the real answer to your question!
