when to move for adult mice?

ritamcfarsons Sep 23, 2003 07:15 PM

my baabyy ball python os 1 month old. he had eaten a test pinkie before i had got it. i knew that a pink is too small for it. however knowing that they are known to have problems with feeding i gave him a weaned mouse to eat even though he looksed like he could take a nearly adult mouse. the hoppers didn't ma ke a lump.

he looked hungry all week. today i gave him another one... still looked hungry so i deforted another one ... hungry again and i gave another one. only then he was full and went to hide.

does it mean that he is fine and should be treated like a normal snake... ie feed something as big as his girth?

thnaks

If your BP will take many small mice, maybe it's time to move up to a rat pup, or a weanling. I would recommend the switch to rats as soon as possible. When your ball is 3000g and HOOKED on mice, you'll end up feeding her 15 mice a week. Bling bling!!

I can feed my BP 2 adult mice with room to spare, you think I should upgrade to rats? Are they cheaper? do most stores carry them?

If your baby BP can eat two mice per feeding, I would definitely get them on rats as soon as you can. I would think all pet stores that carry mice would also carry rats. Finally, rats will be more expensive thatn mice, but if you take into consideration when your BP is 3000g and eating 15 mice per feeding @ $1 a pop, when you can feed them one jumbo rat for $4. It works itself out in the long run.

Personally I start with rats and skip the whole mouse thing all together. This way there is no switching involved. I would go to rats as soon as possible and don't look back. Rats are more nutrishious (sp?) and will be cheaper in the long run. Good luck with switching over, Scott.
