First hatchling ever!!! Need Help!!

54podge Jul 05, 2010 06:01 PM

came home from a weekend away, and what I thought were more duds appear to not be! I have one little one poking out. Do I move the egg to another cage/deli cup, or leave it in place? Please let me know ASAP

"and do I keep it dark, even if I move it? Keep it in the closet?"

They will feel a bit more secure in the dark, yes, but it doesn't necessarily have to be pitch black, just not well lit in a real bright room is best, but no real biggie.

Just make sure there isn't alot of movement that they can see, or they can keep poking their heads back inside the egg, and take a bit longer to come out..LOL!

thanks! What a joy to even get one when I was convinced they were duds. 8 more in that batch, and 7 huge eggs cooking that were laid by my snow about 2 weeks later!!

As long as it cannot escape when it emerges, do not mess with it at all, and let it come out on it's own. Hopefully, the rest will follow suite too. After they emerge, then of course you could move them to better quarters if need be.

what kind anway??

good luck bro!

hey, if you don't think the eggs are in a secure enough container, you can always gently place what they are already in now inside another slightly bigger, more secure container too.

But try to keep them in the same warm temp area of course.
