C.A. (Central American Boa's)?

Skyfire_1 Jul 05, 2010 07:50 PM

I was looking at Male Boa's to keep the size down because of caging space that I have available. (Rack System) But I now think that maybe a dwarf boa such as a Nicaraguan Boa may be the way for me to go for that reason. Then I saw some real nice looking CA Motley Boas that I liked the looks of.

After searching the web, here's the questions:

1) I heard once that the Dwarf Boas disposition seems a bit more nippy than the larger boas. Does this seem to be the way that the Nics, and CA's are?

2) Do CA's seem more nippy than Nic's?

3) Are Nic's actually CA's?

4) Any good sites you would recomend foor the Nic's and CA's, for either info, or sales?

Thanks...

All Nics. are Central American, but not all Central Americans are Nics. There are other locales like Hondurans, Costa Ricans, El Salvadorian, etc.

I have one female Honduran cross that is very pleasant. To put it nicely, all my other CA's aren't "puppy dog tame". My smartest snake in my collection is also one of the meanest, another Honduran cross. So it depends on the animal really, and how often they are handled.

I love my CA's for the fact that they are indeed smaller, so that means less costs to house, less costs to feed. CA females also recover from breeding faster than their bigger Columbian cousins (but the trade off is smaller litter sizes).

IMO some of the best morphs are CA based, blood, plasma, leopard, tiger and a couple of the CA type of motley.

Finally, here's a video of my Mexican male that bit me in the eye ball a few days ago (he strikes faster than any other snake I own): http://s760.photobucket.com/albums/xx248/hyenidaeherps/?action=view¤t=taggedontheeye.mp4
