2010 Clutch # 4-Input Needed (pics)

jason Jul 06, 2010 08:28 AM

This clutch is from a het hypo x het hypo. I've never hatched hypos before, so this is a first for me. There were 7 good eggs in the clutch. 2 babies had a twisted umbilicus and made it halfway out of the egg before passing. Here's what's left.

this one below appears to be a hypo, though not a particularly impressive one:

This one i'm stumped on. he has a light head and some faint blushing-is he a hypo, or just a light poss. het?

And it gets even better. has anyone here hatched a baby with this particular deformity? If so, did it survive?

Sorry but no Hypo in these pics, the one with no eyes can survive very well if he starts eating for you. Good luck

I hatched a pied last season with that exact issue... eyes are located in the bump in the center of the head... I assist fed it a couple times, but it never took off and I eventually euthanized him. I believe mine had other internal issues in addition to the eyes. My gut says if your snake is normal except for the eye issue, it should do fine once you get it feeding.

Agree with Justin. I have a Poss Het Genetic Stripe born just like that several years back. I had a hell of a time with her as I couldn't get her to eat on her on (had to assist feed). If i remember correctly she also was missing her tongue too so I'd check to see if it has a tongue. If it has a tongue you may be able to save it but if it doesn't I would save yourself the headache and properly put the animal down as it wasn't intended to make it.

BTW did you have a temp spike? That's what I think happened here with the G Stripe clutch, temp spike during the wrong stage of development.

The temps stayed a consistent 89 throughout incubation. Once it comes completely out of the egg, I will check and see if it has a tongue.

I hatched a eyeless het pied (sibling of the 2 headed)
he's the best eater so far!

That is a much better picture and you do have something there, the one on the left is somewhat lighter then the one on the right!, a burgundy perhaps, the dark bands on hypos are very bluish/purple out of the egg like this one!

I have seen some ghost come out looking like the one on the left but I have also seen some het ghost come out looking like that as well. Is that one a male or female?

It's a female. I'll have to wait and see what her shed looks like.
